Our Future is in the safe hands
A Story by: Avinish Sai Kalyan PS
One morning, Henry, Ruby, Marc and Kate walked to their school. When they reached their school they saw their favorite Teacher Miss Jasmine. Seeing her, all the students rushed to her because she had returned back to school after 10 days of leave. She looked sad . Ruby asked Miss Jasmine why she looked sad. Jasmine replied when I reached my mom’s house she asked me to get my bottle. My bottle was full of water. She drank the water in a weird manner. I asked her “Why are you drinking the water in a weird manner?” She said there was no water since morning so I enquired the concerned ones about this problem. They said that last year there were 10 water bodies in the city but this year there were only 4. Last year there were about 10,000 trees but now there are only about 8,500 trees in the city. We are destroying our environment said Miss Jasmine. When the children walked back home they were also worried about the environment. Marc asked “How shall we protect our environment”? At the same time like Miss Jasmine's city the Municipal officials announced that there will be no water for a day. They stored water in containers. The next day they used the stored water. Henry ran to his friends and said we should protect our environment. I have an idea! We can plant saplings and give them to others. Kate said it was a good idea but, how will this work? Henry said I read in a book that “A tree with strong roots can absorb more water and store it in plant parts. Plants allow water to enter the air through a process of transpiration. This water helps form clouds and contributes to rainfall. This in turn increases the amount of water on the Soil. Rainfall will also fill all the water bodies and there will be sufficient water for all”. Wow! Good idea let's go to the plant nursery and buy some plants so they went to the plant nursery and bought 100 saplings which cost 2000 rupees. Marc had 400 rupees and the others had only 200 rupees each. They gathered the money and paid 1000 rupees and they said that they will pay the remaining money later and they went taking the saplings. Later in the evening when Henry’s mom Linda came from her office the nursery owner called Henry’s mom and told that her son has to pay about 1000 rupees to the nursery. Linda said my son would not have bought it. I will ask him and get back to you. When she reached home she saw the saplings in front of the house and got angry. With a grumpy face, she went and shouted to Henry, ``How dare you buy saplings without informing me or your dad. Henry and his friends tell Linda what Miss Jasmine said to them and what is happening in the city. Hearing that Linda understood the motto of the children. So she told them,
I am not going to scold you dears anymore and I now strongly believe that “Our future is in safe hands”. Linda bought many saplings and they all distributed the sampling all over the city. They also made a small miyawaki forest. After six months the city was full of greenery, mother nature flourished and also there was no drought in the city. The mayor of the city also appreciated them with awards.
