Dream Husband
After being laid off from her IT job, Jenny decided to take a break for a month before looking for another situation. Not that she was super rich, but she found herself well off because of the settlement she received after her parent’s death. It was during this month that she had the dream.
In the dream, she was married to Kevin, a barista, at the Starbucks down the street. They were living in a house they bought outright. They talked about one day having children but not right away. In her dream, Jenny felt her life was perfect the way it was. That’s why she practically screamed with frustration when the dream ended. It had felt so real, so real in fact, she had been able to feel, smell, and taste everything.
After waking up, Jenny remained in bed, desperately trying to bring back the dream, but of course, she couldn’t. Massively disappointed, she tried to go about her usual routine, which now included strolling down to the Starbucks for a coffee and something to eat and maybe some reading. That’s where she saw him--the man from her dream!
Jenny was so shocked, she almost tripped over her own feet but managed to stay upright. At the register, the man asked what he could get started for her? Still in shock, she didn’t reply right away. He had to repeat his request.
After ordering, she said, “You must be new. I’ve not seen you before.”
“Yeah, I just got transferred.”
“And no nametag?”
For the moment, he looked embarrassed. “Yeah, sorry, I forgot it this morning.”
“So, what’s your name?”
When he said Kevin, her heart nearly stopped.
“Thank you,” Jenny said with a warm smile, after accepting her order. Then sitting at a table, she faced the register so she could keep an eye on him. Right away, she noticed that some of his gestures were exactly as in her dream. This started her heart racing.
She spent the next two hours drinking coffee while half-heartedly reading the paperback she had brought with her. All the while, she kept glancing up at him, hoping he would pay attention to her. Unfortunately, he was too busy. This didn’t stop her from returning again and again in the coming days, hoping he’d be there.
On the days he was, she tried plucking little pieces of personal information from him, hoping to not come across as too nosey. Eventually, she noticed him looking up at her a lot and smiling. This gave her the courage to ask him out for lunch. He agreed, which was how their relationship started . . . which did eventually lead to marriage.
It seems, the dream had been more than just a fantasy after all.
