Search in a Cave

The cave was leading deep into the ground. Zoe knew her friends were down there somewhere. "They told me they were just in the area, not in a cave," Zoe muttered to herself as she descended roughly carved steps.
'I better not slip,' she thought. The stairs were wet from rain that probably came in from small cracks. To make matters worse, there wasn't a railing and the drop was long.
Eventually the tedious climb was finished but Zoe had no idea where to go.
"Natasha! Adam! Penny!" Zoe called.
No response.
There was some dirt and sand on the floor with some shoe prints. Zoe followed them, being sure not to step on them to be able to find her way back.
The cave was cold. The walls had water streaks and an audible drip sounded from further along in the cave.
Zoe walked until she heard movement. "Natasha? Adam? Penny?" Zoe pleaded.
Another sound. "Zoe?" Penny faltered, emerging from behind a narrow passage.
"Where are the others?"
"Back there," Penny explained. "We got lost and we didn't want to walk in circles. We stayed back there."
Zoe asked with slight irritation, "Why did you come here in the first place?"
Adam and Natasha came out of the passage. Natasha glanced at her brother and said sheepishly, "I wanted to explore a little. I didn't think we'd get stuck."
"It's cold, let's get out of here. If we follow these footprints we'll reach the entrance." Zoe said.
As a group, they avoided detours and made their way to the steps and out of the cave.
