Beza and the Bull with Golden Horns

In the heart of the Forest Kingdom, where the trees whispered their age-old secrets and the streams sang lullabies to the stones, lived a boy named Bezaleel. But everyone called him Beza.

Beza was nine years old - bold as the summer wind, free as a bird in flight, and with eyes that shone with curiosity for all the wonders of the world. He lived in a little wooden hut on the forest’s edge with his mother, a poor but gentle woman whose eyes held more warmth than the sun held light.

Each day, she would tell him:

“My son, help everyone you can, for kindness is a treasure that never runs out.”

One bright morning, Beza wandered deeper into the forest than he had ever dared before. He followed the call of a strange bird, its song flitting through the trees like ribbons of silver. But then - another sound reached him. Not a bird, not the wind. A voice.

Strong. Deep. Desperate.

“Help! Help me!”

Beza pushed past brambles and ferns until the light dimmed and the forest thickened. There, in a thicket of cruel vines, he saw a sight that took his breath away.

A great black bull, trapped in a prison of thorns. Its coat shone like polished obsidian, and upon its head were two magnificent horns glowing as though molten gold flowed within them.

The bull’s deep eyes met Beza’s.

“Boy… will you free me?” the voice rumbled, though the bull’s mouth did not move.

Beza’s heart pounded, not with fear, but with wonder. Without a thought for himself, he began tearing away the vines, ignoring the sting of the thorns and the scratches on his hands. At last, the final creeper fell, and the bull stepped free.

The majestic creature lowered his shining horns.

“You have freed me, Beza. I shall be your friend forever. When you need me, call my name.”

Before Beza could ask what that name was, the bull melted into the shadows of the forest.

That night, Beza dreamed. He was riding the black bull, but now the creature bore vast wings of midnight feathers. Together they soared over mountains, rivers, and seas, visiting faraway kingdoms where the air smelled of spices and the palaces gleamed like jewels.

In each kingdom, a princess stepped forward and placed a gift in his hands:

. From the first — a golden safe.

. From the second — a silver safe.

. From the third — a platinum safe.

. From the fourth — a palladium safe.

. From the fifth — an iridium safe that shimmered like the stars.

Beza awoke at dawn. And there, beside his bed, stood the five safes - exactly as in his dream.

Days passed before he dared open them. At last, with his mother’s gentle nod, he did:

. The golden safe held coins enough to feed the entire village for years.

. The silver safe held seeds of rare plants that could cure sickness.

. The platinum safe held tools that never broke.

. The palladium safe held scrolls of wisdom from distant lands.

. And the iridium safe… held a small horn made of pure light.

Beza lifted the horn to his lips and blew. The sound was like the wind rushing over the highest mountains. From the forest shadows stepped the black bull with the golden horns.

The bull lowered his head so Beza could meet his gaze.

“From this day, you will never be alone,” he said. “And because you freed me with a heart that asked for nothing, you have the right to know my true name.”

He leaned closer, his voice deep as rivers running beneath the earth.

“I am Aurigor, Guardian of the Forest Paths.”

From that day on, whenever Beza called, “Aurigor!” the mighty bull came. Together they crossed sky and shadow, bringing help and hope to those in need.

And so, Beza’s kindness and Aurigor’s loyalty became a tale told for generations beneath the whispering boughs of the Forest Kingdom.

Moral: True kindness expects nothing in return, yet it often unlocks treasures far greater than gold. When you act with courage and a pure heart, even the smallest good deed can lead you to wonders beyond your dreams.

And so, under the watchful stars and in the golden light of friendship, Beza and Aurigor rode on forever.

Your story is full of warmth, wonder and wisdom. I love how the moral shines through so clearly: that genuine kindness and selflessness can open doors to blessings we never imagined. Thank you for sharing!

"True kindness expects nothing in return" - wise words to live by. When we give without asking or expecting anything in return, we feel good. And most times, we get 10x what we have given. Great story, Idalia!

What a wonderful story. I recently read a book of ancient Siberian (i.e. Russian) fairy tales and oral folktales with similar themes. They all share a certain magic and eternal wisdom.
