THE POTION OF DECEPTION

Once upon a time, there was a farmer, called Trevor.

Trevor grew and harvested crops on his land all year round.

He shared his produce with his family and the neighbouring villagers – making sure that no one ever went hungry.

No one did go hungry – not until the moment of grave misfortune fell.

Trevor was harvesting cabbages one day, when an evil wizard came and put a curse on his land.

The curse caused the crops to wither and the people to go hungry – hungry without dying.

Trevor saw only one course of action to take.

He went to seek help from an elderly witch, living in a woodland cottage.

The witch decided to help at once.

She brewed up a green potion and poured some into a vial.

She then told Trevor, that the potion would make the wizard stronger, then take away his powers. That it was a potion, of deception.

The thing was, Trevor had no idea where the wizard was.

The witch, on the other hand, did.

She journeyed at once to the wizard’s abode, which was in a mountain cave.

The wizard, who was brewing his own potion, suspected nothing.

The witch deceived him, by saying that the potion would make him more powerful.

Still not suspecting anything, the wizard drank the potion in one go.

Immediately, the potion began to take effect.

To begin with, the wizard felt himself grow rapidly stronger.

Then the deception came.

The wizard totally lost his powers.

He knew at once, that the witch had tricked him.

For Trevor, on the other hand, it was a perfect stroke of good fortune.

With the curse lifted, he was able to grow crops again.

That spelled good fortune for the villagers too.

They could finally nourish themselves again.

No more hunger. No more starvation.

They all thanked the witch.

The witch, had saved the day.
