Lost Love
Born 1957, F, from Mesick Michigan, United States
and sweet
the memories burn
as I lie here
on the rippling water's edge
gazing over at the setting sun.
As it slowly descends upon the horizon
my aching heart melts over and over again.
The intense warm hues of the immensely painted sky
send burning memories of your soft long-lasting enduring embrace.
The emptiness I feel runs deep like the oceans stormy squalls.
Vast waves crashing on shore as my heart cries out for you.
No longer will we wrap our sensual bodies in pure intimacy.
Gone are the days we caress each other with affection.
As the sun sinks deeper it radiates fiery hues
scorching my every emotion of love and loneliness.
I reach out my arms for you
but only your memory I grasp.
Just sand through my fingertips.
Lost love forever intact
in my dreams.
Bitter and
Sweet

09/02/2025Hi Shirley, I hope I'm back. I've had a lot going on the last couple of years that took me away from my writing. Now I have major 'writer's block.' Thats why I started with a short poem. I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank you.

09/02/2025Aww, thank you so much Jessica for your kind and inspirational words. I've sat at my lap top numerous times staring at a blank screen. The words just are not ready to flow yet. Hopefully soon. The poem was easy. Ideas for short stories are not. Glad you enjoyed the poem.

09/02/2025Your words flow like tides between sorrow and light,
a dance of flame and salt upon fading night.
I feel the ache in each crashing wave,
yet also the beauty in the love you gave.
Though the sun sinks low, it promises rise,
hope painted softly across tommorow skies.
Beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing!

09/01/2025I love the emotion behind this short story, the beautiful way you've woven and constructed it, and especially the way you cleverly started with one word line building up word by word with each line to ten words, then all the way back down to one again. So well done. Happy short story star of the day, Shelly.

12/09/2025Hopefully I can reach you this way. Hi JD, there seems to be a problem with my storystar site. On my home page the daily and weekly stories have been the same for over 2 weeks. Also, when I leave a comment or reply to someone who left a comment on my story I'm flagged, why? Hopefully you can figure out what's going on. Sorry to bother you with this. I've left questions on the 'contact us' page and no one has responded. I'm hoping you can find out what is wrong.
Thanks, Shelly

09/02/2025Aww, thank you so much JD. Your words are very inspiring. There's been a lot going on in my life the last couple of years and some of those emotions and feelings went into this poem. I like this style of writing. I think it's more difficult than just writing paragraphs. I believe this is my 4th story/poem written in this format. I find it challenging and fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem JD. Thank you for choosing this story for story of the day. It's always an honor. Thanks

08/28/2025Aww thank you so much Marla. I haven't written anything in about 3 years due to personal and family issues. So I'm out of the swing of it. I'm having writers block for short stories so I thought I'd start with a poem. Thanks for your kind words.
