The Indifference of Clouds
THE INDIFFERANCE OF CLOUDS
BY R.D. SEGREST

We were old when man first took breath,

we will remain when he is no longer.

We drift and watch with impunity,

Wars and endless slaughter.

Our tears cleanse the blood of the madness,

of both the innocent and the damned.

Why man cannot live in peace,

we cannot understand.

So, we watch with indifference man’s folly,

from our kingdom in the sky.

And wonder, how much longer,

will mankind’s reign survive.

This is a unique way to comment on the nature of humanity. It uses cloud symbolism in a surprising way and is filled with emotion. Well done.

This was a very beautiful poem. I like the consistency of its structure as well as the message behind it. While there is so much going on with humans, the clouds are merely observers to these incidents. It's an interesting way of looking at everything around us to see things from that more indifferent perspective. Great job!

Thank you Noah. I was contemplating not posting it as I was reluctant about my ability to write poetry.

I enjoyed your short poem, Ronald! It's a very interesting perspective: that of clouds. I think you should continue writing poems.

What an eloquent poem. Though expressed in very little words, this poem is so beautiful and truly captures the essence of how our world is lacquered with tears and greed. This is truly a work of art

Thank you for the comment Adewale. When I submitted it I did so under the poetry heading. This isn't the first time this has happened. I also submitted a novella which was listed under short stories by Storystar. I guess it is just how they do it.

Hauntingly beautiful, is all I can say Ronald. This poem sheds light on humanity's flaws with poignant clarity. The themes of nature's detachment and humanity's flaws are thought-provoking and timely. Soo beautifully written.

A short but eloquently worded poem. I sometimes wonder how Humans have been in power for so long.
Congratulations on Short Story Star of the Day.

Thank you for reading and commenting again on one of my submissions Martha. This was the first and most likely the last time I attempt poetry. I got the idea from wondering , What if clouds were sentient beings and what would they think of humans and our endless wars. Again, thank you for reading and commenting. Have you submitted to anything to Storystar so that I can read of yours?
