Authors Note: This story was inspired by Barry's recent wonderful story about a Writing Class. So I decided to write this version of a Writing Class. Thanks Barry!

*****

“You have to leave the Class. Enough is enough.”

The Writing Class teacher was livid. Her red face almost matching the claret color of her hair. She couldn’t believe the arrogance and resistance she got from him about Writing. She had a Doctorate in English Literature. She had articles in just about every Professional Academic Journal in existence in the English Speaking world. She taught this one Freshman Level Class out of her desire for more Writers to be introduced to Writing. And writing well.

But enough was enough. The constant interruptions by this young man about why she chose this word…or that word... in a sentence were relentless. She had to explain each and every word choice. If that wasn’t bad enough, both time consuming and frustrating…the Student also challenged the use of punctuation. Her punctuation.

She had had enough.

“Out! I will give you a C …but don’t come back this Semester.”

The young man merely smiled at her.

“Keep the “C”.”

And he walked out.

The rest of the Class clapped as he casually slipped his books back into his bag…and left the room.

“Good riddens!”

The Class laughed again.

The Teacher smiled at the gaggle of very bright promising Writers. She could finally teach now without interruption. She made one last comment to the Class:

“Now that Hemingway is gone, maybe we can get down to some serious writing. “

Thank you, sir for sharing such a beautiful piece. I do agree that the works of Barry provoke our thoughts and invite to give the best one can.

I almost fell off my chair when I read your introduction, but let's not get bogged down in trivia and change the subject. I wrote a second complimentary comment about the StoryStar piece that you wrote about the soldier coming home to discover that his girlfriend had married a best friend from high school. After reading that impressive story I sat down and had breakfast: a cheese omelette with sausages and half a buttered croissant. Why all the petty details? Because as I was finishing breakast and still thinking about your story, I realized that it reminded me of the sort of thing (both in the economical, minimalist language and formalistic style of something Anton Chekhov might have written back in the 1800's. I wanted to mention that but got caught up in other quoitidian tasks and never got around to telling you.
