A WHITE CHICKEN

MISHACK RIKHOTSO

"Nelson Mandela was born on 18 July 1918. Vuthlarhi high school didn't offer
history on the areas of learning, I should've studied history".
And so to unfortunate that my parents didn't have enough money to take
Me to other schools where history was offered."
So said Natalie while giving her chickens some mealie corns.

I was passing by a veranda of her home's two bed room apartment, chasing
away some live stock that were daily trespassing into my garden to eat
my fruits and vegetables. And even if I could perpetrate, it could be worse.
And some sort of much waste of time and attention because i was earlier fore-
told that razmatazation is completely a waste.
And even if i could take the matter to the fore-head men of the valley,
they could interpret it to its basic elements and they eventually laugh like they
have seen a blind man keeping a red eye at unproperly seated woman.

Or they have seen him watching Tom and Jerry on an old black and white TV.
Natalie was very shocked on a discovery of a white chicken being missed,
and she suddenly became blazed with a bright flame and became calmed
in short.
Thinking perhaps a A white chicken might be off nearby, looking for insects.

She love her chickens very much but A white chicken was the best.
It produced many chickens that had filled all the yard, and those chickens was her
source of income because many people around the village was coming to buy them
every day. I was also providing Her with some of useless corns I also produced at
my garden to feed the chickens.
And ever-since she never found history at Vuthlarhi high school ,she kept her nose
to a grinding stone, concertinaing much on a field of agricultural sciences. Even
though she didn't manage to further her studies after matric, that field urged her to
to start her own agricultural project, and concatenated more on farming and
chickens.

SHE then managed to lead her tolerable life and support her family through income
from the garden together with the live stock.
When the sun set, all Natalie s chickens gathered and jumped to the trees where they used
to sleep, but A white chicken never arrived. As She was off to Her friend Ossinah,
She didn't see if A white chicken was present or not. She just went straight to Her room
and sleep. And her mother never cared of her daughters chickens that were bringing
bread on a table. All she loved was only a cat and we know that a cat is a best granny's friend.

Natalie heard he chickens early in the morning flying down from the trees. she then wake
up and gave them food as usually. But she didn't see a white chicken again.
she rapidly came straight to my place and ask me about it. unfortunately i also didn't
see it roaming around my yard.
she even promised me a sum of R20 if i could found it, I looked every where just to get
R20 to buy 2liter of a home prepared sorghum(traditional beer), but i never got A white chicken.

She even thought of killing A Cat thinking perhaps it might have killed her chicken, her mother
was nervous she even took three consecutive days without talking to her daughter.
Hence it is strictly not good for a familly to don't talk to each other, it is definitely not healthy
to people who live as bonded family. It is said to might cause hypertension, stress and serious
damage to the brains of offspring. hence could be inherited by the next generations.

Natallie was already done of bathing when her friend Osinah arrived, and she had prepared
every thing so that they could go to church as it was great blessed Sunday morning.
They tooked a ususlly way to church, but her mother seemed like she was still have not recovered
since from the day of their communication break down, and she was moving her back on a wall
as she could not clearly recall every thing or activities of the previous days.
An her sight was nearly becoming darker. Ms Margret Mboweni. Their relationship with a father
of her only daughter Osinah earlier disintegrated the year Osinah's father gotten broke
in such a way that he could not be able to take care of his familly.

That is why Margret remained a single mother in her entire life. And osinah kept asking her mother
about her father because this had happned 20 years ago and she was still young
Osinah spend three consecutive months still looking for A white chiken but nothing ever seen.

Some times chickens and other domestic animals bring a natural bright light in a familly, and some
provide peace and happiness in a familly. this is what i was told by my late daddy according to cultural
belives.

A prophecy was fore-told about the chickens that would spread more and more to fill the yard and
and produce income to the familly, but it was unbelievable because it after many years since it was told.
Other first day of of August Saturday morning OSinah was very shocked on a discovery of A white chicken
roaming around the yard. she was very happy to see it again. she rapidly took a tortoise calabash
that a white chicken was usually feed into and filled it with corns.

On sunday morning, Margret was un able to wake up due to a terrible head ache, Osinnah ran to call her friend to help her they looked for a nearby transport and took her to clinic. When they arrived
her condition was very bad and she could not say and word, she was sent to hospital for admission,
and three days latter her plane crushed into ashes. she was buried and rest in peace.

A month later after her funeral, a couple of white doves arrived and set on a window sill of Natallies room. they sing a unique holly morning songs representing peace.

This explores themes of family, loss, and interconnectedness through Natalie's journey, centered around her white chicken and family struggles. It's a reflection on love, loss, and finding meaning.

Like just goes on sometimes. I hope the white doves were sent to make her feel better.
