He Came Home
A Short Story by Charles E.J. Moulton
Once upon a time, there was a boy. He had everything. A fantastic family, artistic upbringing, famous people, music, good food, travels. The only problem was that his parents lived in two different camps. They were hot and cold, up and down, angry and sad. And the little boy was caught in between them. And then one day, it was decided that the family move from the home in the city where they lived. The boy was actually happy in the city. But because he... had lost his middle ground, having to mediate between the father and the mother, moving to the new bigger city was something that he felt he was supposed to like. And the newer big city, he felt lost, and many things happened that made him feel even more lost. And he developed psychological trauma in that newer big city. He felt used by the people and the university that rejected him, that his mother said he had to be part of. He felt lonely, and he didn't know why. He was afraid of relationships, and he didn't know why. And somehow, in spite of being ridiculed, he made it anyway to have a career. He built himself a family, he married, and he had a child who grew up to be a beautiful woman. And then, after forty years of psychological trauma, he found a good friend who took him by the hand and sorted out his problems. And they went really deep down into his soul, understanding what had actually happened. And so the older man, over glasses of wine, realized that the psychological trauma that he had was actually leaving the little boy behind, the little boy that just wanted to be heard. And so at fifty-six, he found that little boy inside of his soul who just wanted to be heard. And so the little boy came back home.

01/25/2026I liked the feeling that you showed in this story, but I think you left a lot the the stories details out. It reads more like a summary than a story. It just did not feel up to the level of your other stories.
