Any Interest in Monthly Writing Contest?
Born 1950, U, from Arlington TX, United States
I was wondering if there was any interest in a monthly contest, driven by a writing prompt, which would result in hopefully several or even more submissions. No points required. Submission could be about any Theme or Genre as long as the story was related to the writing prompt.
My thoughts are that readers would vote for the winner and the winner would be selected as Story of the Week for the following month. Readers could enter Comments about what they liked and did not like about the stories to help us all improve as authors. (FYI: My secret hope here is that people will get more used to commenting on all the stories.)
I might also package the submitted stories as an anthology to publish on Amazon so that each author entering the contest is not only a published author on StoryStar but also on Amazon. Go tell your friends that!
Full Disclosure: Fame but no fortune. So far items that I have published on Amazon have generated less than a dollar of revenue and StoryStar would be keeping all the pennies for the anthology, but the authors still would be getting the bragging rights!
Please let me know what you think in the comments below.

01/26/2026Sounds like a great idea DA. Story prompts sure would help with that writers block we all get from time to time (which is happening to me right now)! I'm in!

01/26/2026Thanks Ben! FYI I am not say to comment 'dislikes', but rather thinking that we all could use a little constructive criticism, aka suggestions, about how we can improve.

01/26/2026That is such a good idea! I would definitely be up for writing something each month and submitting. I would also look forward to reading the other submissions. Great idea!

01/26/2026I think this is a good idea. It would, hopefully, encourage more participation. I for one need this sort of thing to motivate me. i love to write but have no discipline to do it regualrly!! I also like the idea of having a theme /subject to build the story around.

01/26/2026Thanks Kristin! I know what you mean about needing a push on discipline. My writing has really slowed down lately.

01/24/2026Nice ides, I miss the contests. Every month might be a bit much. But depending on the topic, writers could pick and choose. Thanks for proposing this.

01/26/2026Thanks for being the first to comment. Some kind of award due there! As you say, not every author needs to enter every month, but I think anything longer than a month would be too long.
