A dream is just a dream.
Born 1951, M, from Wilmington NC, United States
But last night I had several dreams ..and they were all over the Map.
Remember the Movie "Notting Hill'?
When Hugh Grant is in the Hotel Room interviewing Julie Roberts...he says this:
"Well, the guy would kiss the girl. Because it is a dream. And in a dream you can do things like that."
So in my dream last night I was kayaking on grass. And I said to Kathy (in my dream): "I can't believe I am kayaking on grass, in our living room!"
And she said: "It is a dream, Kevin. And in dreams you can do things like that."
So what was going on in my brain that brought a scene from a movie that came out like forty years ago, and combined it with a living room I have never been in...and put me on sea of grass paddling a kayak. It was pleasant tho.
My next dream was truly nice.
My best friend Eddie Hudak, died several years ago. For the 57 years we were best friend, not once did we have a fight. And when we were young and building our families we called each other once a week. And that never stopped until the very end. In fact, I talked to him three times in his last few days.
So in my dream I was just sitting at the table reading. A light formed in the shape of a doorway in the middle of the air. A door opened. I could see white cloud steps going all the way up to a golden gate way up in the distance. Down those steps came Eddie.
Under one arm he had a box of Glazed Donuts, and in the other hand he had a jug of Chocolate milk. He had that little smirk he wore when he was in a good mood. Like he knew something the whole rest of the world did not.
As soon as he stepped into my dining room- the glowing door and bright light and steps ...disappeared. It was just me and Ed.
"Want a donut?"
And we both laughed. Because when had either of us refused a donut?
He sat on one side of the table, me on the other. And we just ate donuts, drank chocolate milk...and chatted away. Just two old buddies chewing the cud.
I didn't want that dream to end.
And the final dream was a flashback. Very quick. But so packed with emotion it was breathtaking ...and it was from an incident with my old HS Girl, that actually happened sixty years ago.
She was asleep on the couch, laying on her back. She looked so cute and innocent...that I just stared at her for a bit. Then I went over and knelt next to the couch and leaned over to hug her. She was sound asleep, and so very warm. She never woke up...she just reached around me with her arms, snuggled up, and kept sleeping. And the amount of trust that she had...well, it overwhelmed me. That lasted both a second, and an eternity.
It was a dream, and in dreams, you can do that you know.

02/11/2026I was lucky this time. Most times I have very vivid dreams and I even get up and walk around for a bit to make sure I remember it. Then in the morning when I want to tell Kathy all about the dream...nada. Nope. Nothing. I just have the emotional echo but no details. Darn.

02/07/2026Thanks KanKana,
It is marvelous how your mind just takes what it has floating around in it, and tries to make it so that it makes sense.

02/06/2026Both beautiful and touching sentiments. You just said quite a bit about the human condition in a relatively small space.
