Pleasant Dreams
Born 1947, M, from Oceanside, United States
Pleasant Dreams
Jillie’s grandmother used to tell her stories about her life in the theater and later how she appeared in a couple of obscure low-budget movies. Jillie loved listening to her grandmother’s stories. And then her grandmother died suddenly. It broke Jillie’s heart.
That was six months ago. Jillie doesn’t feel bad anymore. That’s because her grandmother continues to visit her in her dreams.
Mostly, they talk about Jillie’s life now. Her grandmother says she’s disappointed that some of the kids at Jillie’s school bully her. Jillie said she told the principal what was happening. He said he’d do something about it but hasn’t so far.
That’s when her grandmother smiled and said, she’d do something about it.
“How?” Jillie asked.
Her grandmother’s smile widened and she replied, “I’ll give them pleasant dreams.”
“What does that mean?” Jillie asked.
Her grandmother replied, “You’ll see.” Jillie did.
Two days later at school, while Jillie was passing one of her bullies standing by his open locker, she heard him say to the boy next to him, “I had the scariest dream last night. Some old lady . . . . ” Jillie continued past smiling to herself. Thanks grandma, she thought.
