The Worlds

By Juana
Born 2012, F, from Medellin, Colombia

The Worlds
The Worlds
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Antonela. She was twelve years old when she moved in with her grandmother because her parents got a job abroad and couldn't take her with them. Fortunately, it would only be for the summer, so Antonela knew she wouldn't be living with her grandmother for long. Antonela loved to read, draw, and write.
That is why, while they were in the car on the way to her grandmother's house, Antonela started reading her favorite book: The Adventures of Elizabeth. While reading, she fell asleep. When they woke her up, she was quite disoriented. As she got out of the car, she saw an older woman coming out of the house; she had short, gray hair and was wearing a blue dress and a shawl. Antonela was surprised to see her, as she had never met her maternal grandmother.
Upon entering the house, Antonela saw that her grandmother had a cat. Her grandmother mentioned its name was Luna. At 7:00 PM, her grandmother called her for dinner. Antonela came out of the room her grandmother had organized for her and went down to eat. Her grandmother’s cooking was delicious, so her granddaughter was delighted with the meal. Antonela told her that her favorite food was ceviche, and that this was undoubtedly the best she had ever eaten.
Antonela finished dinner and went up to get ready for bed. When she reached the room, she noticed the cat was on the balcony, and it seemed to be fighting with another animal. But as she looked closer, she noticed it had six legs and wings. When the creature looked at her, Antonela let out a scream of horror. Suddenly, the creature vanished. Looking behind her, she saw her grandmother firing a bluish ray from her hand. Instantly, Antonela fainted.
When she woke up, Antonela noticed she was in a room she hadn't seen when she toured the house. Her grandmother explained that this was a secret room. Antonela asked if what she had seen had been a dream or a hallucination. Her grandmother replied no, and told her that her mother and all the women of past generations in her family belonged to the branch of what are supposedly witches. She also explained that other creatures existed, both good and bad. For example, the one on the balcony was a malignant Algerio. Then she told her that all magical creatures, including witches, had the capacity to be both good and bad. Antonela was so overwhelmed that she could only ask why they turned bad.
Her grandmother answered that there are two worlds: the Physical and the Multidimensional. In the Physical world dwell the "asleep" beings, who are those who are unaware of or do not believe in things mislabeled as magic, magical creatures, etc. These beings can be completely asleep or not. Then there is the Multidimensional world where the "awake" beings dwell; they believe in magic and can even come to possess it if they are awake enough to control it—like their ancestors, who all believed in magic. Another thing is that all humans inhabit those worlds and can be both asleep and awake. There are some awake beings who use magic for their own benefit, absorbing the energy or "misnamed magic" that dwells in every being. The more awake one is, the more energy they have. That is why the Algerio was in the house: to absorb her energy.
Antonela told her grandmother that she didn't believe she was an awake creature. Her grandmother told her she was, because she was able to see the creature—something only awake beings can do. She also explained that some beings can be born with very awake energy, which is why small magical beings can be seen. Even beings who are no longer in the physical world—meaning they have died—can be seen because all beings who haven't been born or who have died are entirely in the multidimensional world. She explained that some beings want to experiment in the physical world and are supposedly born there, but they can only choose a period of time since all beings belong to the multidimensional world, which is found in the dimension or universe of Earth and all other dimensions or universes, while the physical world is found only on some planets of various dimensions.
When they choose to come to the physical world, they decide not to remember the multidimensional world. Antonela asked her to tell her more, so her grandmother continued, explaining that beings are immortal and only die in the physical world. She said that those who are bad are not actually bad; rather, when they wish to go to the physical world, they choose a purpose—for example, some go so that others know where they come from and become awake beings. Others go to the physical world to improve and have purer energy, because the more you learn in the physical world, the greater and purer your energy becomes. One must also remember that beings are neither good nor bad; they are beings that learn through experiences. Secondly, the fewer experiences a being has, the less energy they will have. That is why some absorb the energy of others to have more.
But it doesn't work for them, as energy is made of experiences that aren't theirs. Antonela, fascinated, asked her grandmother how she could prevent them from absorbing her energy. Her grandmother told her the main thing is that when she is in the physical world, she must never be afraid. This only works in the physical world because in the multidimensional world there are no emotions. The other thing is to mentally tell it to go away, and it won't be able to do anything because you have closed the door to your energy.
"Then why did you fire a ray at the Algerio?" Antonela asked. Her grandmother replied that it was a way to release her energy to create a protection field around the house so that it could never enter again.
Antonela let out a yawn, and her grandmother said, "Let's go to sleep, and I will tell you and teach you everything I know."
