The Cinnamon Roll Story

Joe Jacobs was a mild-loking 35-year-old who wore glasses, lived by himself in an apartment with an cat named Bunbun, went to work as a computer tech every day and watched television every night.  He considered himself a confirmed bachelor.  Mary Tyler was a plain-looking woman, 29 years old, who looked like the librarian she was.  She wore glasses and wore her hair in a bun.  She spent most of her nights reading,  Her friends and co-workers considered her an old maid.

Joe also liked reading and went to the library often.  He became friendly with Mary and asked her to recommend books.  Then after he’d read the books he’d discuss them with Mary.  Joe wanted to ask Mary out but was too shy to do so.  So far in his life all he’d been met with was rejection and he was afraid he’d be rejected again.  Mary felt the same way.

So they continued in this manner until one afternoon Joe went to the library and didn’t find Mary there.  He asked the lady at the desk if Mary was somewhere and was told that she was on her coffee break and having her daily cinnamon roll, which she loved.  The next time Joe went to the library h found Mary there and they discussed the latest book he was reading.

That winter was a bad one for flu and Joe came down with it.  He was laid up for over a week until his fever broke and he woke up one morning feeling hungry, hungry for a cinnamon roll.  He didn’t know why as he’d never had this feeling about cinnamon rolls before but he had to have one and told Bunbun he was going to the bakery.

The bakery was crowded, mostly with women, and he saw to his surprise that one of them was Mary Tyler.   He said, “I didn’t know you lived around here.”

“I don’t,” said Mary, “but I had an errand here and was passing this bakery and suddenly had to have a cinnamon roll.”

“I woke up this morning,” said Joe, “and felt the same way.  Look, I know of a little coffee shop nearby.  Why don’t we go there and have our cinnamon rolls.”

“That sounds like a wonderful idea,” said Mary.

At the coffee shop Joe and Mary exchanged stories about their lives.  Joe tried to explain what his computer job was.  May listened and didn’t understand any of it but it didn’t matter.  Shortly afterward Joe and Mary were married in a small wedding.  The story of how they came together was a good one and they told it to their four children, who listened raptly while eating their cinnamon rolls.

So...cinnamon rolls for good for things besides smelling and eating? What fun!
