Happy Easter!
Born 1951, M, from Wilmington NC, United States
“No, no, no…the pink one.”
“What’s wrong with the yellow one?” “Nothing. Your sister is wearing yellow, and I want us all to look like a bouquet, and not a clump of the same colored flowers.” “Wait..what?” It took Heathers eight year old brain a bit to process. Then she smiled. “Oh, I get it. Mom is in blue. I am in pink. Carol is in yellow. Sheila is in purple. And Auntie Kay is in green! We look like a bouquet of flowers! “Exactly!” Then her freckles bunched up as she scrunched her nose. Something that everyone in the family simply adored. “But why? I mean it is just Sunday.” Her older sister, busy putting a beautiful white rose corsage on Shelia’s purple dress- turned and spoke: “It is EASTER Sunday!” “So?” “So that’s the day God came back to show us that love, grace, beauty and forgiveness never die.” “Oh. So we are God’s flowers?” Her sister knelt and hugged her little sister. “Yes. We all are.” And then everyone laughed when the littlest one said out loud: “Well, I hope God doesn’t have allergies. Because the Church is going to be full of flowers.” The laughter just made them glow more.
