The stray cat
Born 2015, F, from Kentucky, United States"Katie, you can't just pet it! It could have thousands of fleas on it!" "Lauren, what do I do? Just admire it?" Lauren shrugged. Katie sighs. She stares at the cat. It's brown with black stripes. "It' very cute," "I know! That's why I want to adopt it!" "Katie, be serious for a second!" Katie rolls her eyes. "Go on," "I'm teling you not to, because it might be somebodys cat. Plus, it's on their property." Katie crosses her arms. "Katie, don't give me bad attitude." "Don't give me bad attitude." Katie mocks. "Katie, stop acting like a two year old. Do you really want to adopt it?" "Obviously!" Lauren sighs. "But we can't," Katie says sadly. The cat brushes her tail on Katie's leg. Katie laughs. "See! She likes me!" "I know, I know, Katie. Just give me a moment to think." A minute passed. "I got it!" Katie's face lightens up. "What's the idea?" "What if we give it tuna and milk everyday? Maybe it'll start trusting us and maybe-just maybe-we can adopt it!" "But she already trustes me!" Katie whines. Lauren scoffs. "Sure she does," Katie looks up at Lauren. "She does! Did she brush your leg?" "No," Katie smirks. "Exactly! Now go get tuna and milk!" "No, I can't leave my little sister alone! Dad and mom will kill me!" "They're not home," "I know, but if they ride through the neighborhood, they'll be sure to see you!" "Fine! I'll go and get it!" Katie returns with a bowl of milk and tuna. "Here, kitty!" "Hmm, what should her name be?" "She's not your pet!" Lauren points out. Katie ignores her. "Ashley, Ashley fits you." "Aww! It's licking my hand! She likes me!" "Good. Now let's let her be. We'll come back tomorrow after school and feed it again. "Okay, let's go! Bye-bye, kitty!" Weeks passed, and Katie and Lauren still brought it milk and tuna everyday. Soon, their parents found out about the cat. "You two are doing the right thing. I've asked the neighbors if that was their cat, and they said it wasn't," Katie and Lauren smiled at each other. "And, since it wasn't, your mother and I decided you may adopt the cat." "YES!" Lauren shouts. Katie runs out the door, and soon later, returns with the cat. "Ashley is here!" "You've planned ahead!" Her parents remark. "Yep! Because I knew we would soon adopt her!" Lauren shakes her head. "No, I knew we would adopt her!" "Fine. We both did." "Yes, you both did."

04/13/2026I liked this story. Of course, I always like stories about cats. Some people have been having trouble with the editor that they write their stories in not transferring the paragraphs properly when they upload. Always check before you publish.
