The Curse of Estella
Born 2016, F, from Lahore, PakistanThe Curse of Estella
Estella had always believed in logic, not legends. Little did she know that her future would be more chaotic than her past. When she moved to the quiet town of Greystone, she thought she was escaping the chaos of her past ,the sleepless nights, the haunting dreams, the feeling that something was always watching her. But Greystone was not the sanctuary she hoped for. It was a place where whispers carried through the fog, and every shadow seemed to breathe.
Her new home sat at the edge of the forest, where the trees grew too close together and the air smelled faintly of ash. The townsfolk were kind but cautious, their smiles fading whenever she mentioned the woods. They told her stories of a witch who once lived there. A woman betrayed and burned, whose curse lingered long after her death. Estella laughed it off. Like something was trying to warn her about the things coming later in her life.
Weird Things
First, her mirror cracked without reason. Then her cat vanished, leaving behind only a strand of fur. Every night, she heard footsteps circling her house, though no one was ever there. And then came the dreams vivid, suffocating visions of a woman cloaked in green fire, whispering her name.
Desperate for answers, Estella turned to the town’s archives. There she found the name Mara Vex, a healer accused of witchcraft centuries ago. The records told of a curse cast upon the descendants of her accusers. A curse that would awaken when the bloodline crossed paths with Mara’s spirit again. Estella’s family name appeared in the list. She was frightened. She wanted to tell her mother to move towns immediately.
The deeper she dug, the more the curse tightened its grip. Her reflection began to move on its own. Her voice echoed back to her in empty rooms. The forest called to her not with fear, but with familiarity.
The Mystery in the Woods
One stormy night, she followed the whispers into the woods. The trees parted to reveal an ancient stone circle, glowing faintly beneath the rain. At its center stood the witch or what remained of her. A figure of smoke and sorrow.
“You carry their guilt,” the witch said, her voice like wind through broken glass. “But you are not them. Break the chain, Estella.”
In that moment, Estella understood. The curse was not punishment, it was memory. A wound passed down through generations, waiting for someone brave enough to heal it.
She raised her hand, repeating the words she had found in Mara’s journal, a spell of forgiveness, not destruction. The forest trembled. The green fire flared, a strong wind came, then faded into silence.
When dawn came, the air was clear. The curse was broken. But as Estella turned to leave, she saw her reflection in a puddle smiling back at her with eyes that were not her own, but now she knew.
The End!
