Fiery love

Fiery love

A time comes when as the queen of dragons, I must choose a king to rule with me. So here I am at a banquet where I’m supposed to find the love of life or something. I watched disinterested in most of those attending, that is until he walked in. He was tall with black hair and fiery red eyes, he had black dragon horns, wings, and tail, his black shirt fit tightly and accented his muscles, he wore jeans and boots, and a sheathed sword around his waist. To me he stood out from the crowd. He was talking to some other suitors and didn’t even glance my way. This intrigued me as most of the others were desperately trying to get my attention for even a second. I walked towards him at a slow but steady pace. My dress flowed as I walked. When I stopped just short of where he was I heard him speaking to another suitor in a hushed tone. His voice was calm and seemed to make me want him to notice me even more. I finally got tired of waiting and cleared my throat. Both figures looked at me in surprise. Then the one who I was after bowed respectfully.

“Your majesty, to what do I owe this great pleasure?” As he spoke he gave me a curious look, but was still bowing.

“You may rise, as for your question, you intrigue me.”

“Is that so?” He said as stopped bowing and our eyes met.

“Yes, most of the others here won’t stop trying to get me too so much as look at them, but from the moment you walked in you haven’t even glanced my way.” His eyes widened.

“I-I’m sorry if I offended you, your majesty.” He said hastily, rubbing the back of his neck. I laughed and shook my head.

“You did not offend me. You mostly just made me curious as to why you were behaving so differently.”

“Well, I figured I didn’t have much of a chance. Most of the others here come from a long line of nobility or are higher ranking than I am.” I smiled at him.

“One who sees themselves as undeserving is often more deserving than one who believes themselves to be entitled to the throne. Take myself for example, as you know the title of ‘Queen of Dragon’ is one that you get at birth, but it is random and can choose anyone. I come from a humble family so I am as undeserving of my title as anyone.” He gave me another surprised look.

“That is very kind of you, your majesty.” I smile at him shaking my head.

“Please, call me Amber. It is my name after all, what might yours be.” His eyes widened yet again,

“I never introduced myself, I’m so sorry. My name is Inferno.”

“It is nice to meet you Inferno.” That was Inferno and I’s first meeting. Not long after we started courting and eventually got married. I introduced him to my two biological twin children and my adoptive son Janner and that went well.

“Where are we going?” I laughed as I flew behind him in my dragon form. He looked back at me in his and smiled mischievously at me.

“You’ll see.”  I rolled my eyes and we kept flying for some time in silence. We landed in a clearing  and he gestured with his head  to the scenery around us.

“Beutiful isn’t it?” he said, turning into his human form. I took a moment to look around at the scenery around me. There was a mountain with a waterfall running down it, into a small pool in front of us, the trees around us had leaves of all sorts of colors, wildflowers bloomed all around us, and the sun was just setting to add to the vibrant colors. I turned into my human form and sat on blanket Inferno had layed out. He had set up a picnic for us. When I had asked him originally why he was bringing a picnic basket he just winked at me and said it was a surprise. Now we sat eating and laughing with each other. After we finished eating I laid my head on his shoulder smiling.

“This was amazing, thank you.”

“With how stressed you’ve been between being a Queen and a mother, I figured you could use a break. I flew over this place at one point and thought it would be the perfect place for a date.” I smiled at him.

“How did I ever get so lucky?”

“I ask myself that same question everyday.”He leaned in and gave me a short but loving kiss. We turned into our dragon forms to fly back. I took off first and what happened next is something that will be frozen in my mind forever. I heard a loud roar of pain and my head turned to see a large spear sticking out of Inferno. I was getting ready to turn around when painfully roared.

“Go, Amber. Our people need you. The children need you.” Tears stung my eyes as I flew a spear grazed my cheek and blood trickled down as I flew. I will never forget what those humans did to him!
