Curse of The Lost Soul
Born 1957, F, from Mesick Michigan, United States
Caroline and Ralph Miller are devastated when they receive the news that they would never be biological parents. Caroline is told her uterus would never carry a fetus to full term and with Ralph's sperm count extremely low their odds of having their own child was next to none. So, after a few months of letting this news sink in they search out adoption agencies. With many failed attempts they began to get discouraged but wouldn't give up. There are many children up for adoption but Ralph has his heart set on a son. They agree on a newborn baby so, they could raise him from birth as if Caroline had conceived him. Upon hearing about a fourteen-year girl who was pregnant with a boy and wanted nothing to do with the baby she was carrying they immediately contacted the hospital which in turn contacted the agency overlooking her situation. They found out she had put the infant up for adoption early in her pregnancy. After years of waiting and hoping their prayers were finally coming true. Within a few short months all the paperwork was signed. They were now parents awaiting their beautiful son. They couldn't be any happier.
On a blustery October 30th evening they are called to the hospital. It is time. At precisely midnight a smiling nurse walks through the corridor's sliding doors with a swaddled newborn in her arms and gently hands him over to Caroline. “Congratulations to you both.” she softly whispered.
“Welcome into the world Jason. We're your mommy and daddy.” Caroline softy cooes as she places a gentle kiss upon his warm temple. His daddy beams.
As a baby Jason never smiles. His eyes don't shine and sparkle as baby's eyes do. Jason's eyes are dull, blank and carry an evil stare. His parents believe there may be something wrong with their son. But doctors confirm he is fine.
For the first seven years everything appears somewhat normal for the Miller family. They are seen together everywhere. Wadding along the beach and making sandcastles. Playing at the park and going on picnics. Jason's dad takes him to the museum. He is always seen with his mom at the grocery store or hair salon. Neighbors saw them as the 'poster' family. Although they would comment on Jason appearing not to be a very happy or contented child.
As time went on Jason, now ten, is beginning to be bullied at school. The family doesn't make a big scene about it. They talk to their son's teacher and principal. The situation would be taken care of. They then pull themselves away from the problem. That isn't the only trouble. On his daily walks to and from school he encounters more bullies. He learns very quickly to stick up for himself and he fights dirty. When he gets home his parents chose to ignore his dirty face, disheveled hair and ripped clothes.
In the privacy of their home, things are rapidly unraveling. The bullying continues and Jason's behavior escalates. He constantly fights with his parents. Saying he hates them. One night shortly after they had dinner Jason tried to stab his mother with a paring knife. He shoved his dad down the living room stairs claiming it was an accident. One day his father dozed off in his chair. Jason took his cigarette from the ash tray and proceeded to burn his father's arm. Things just continued to get worse.
Late one evening the Millers are complaining about their son. Unbeknownst to them Jason is listening.
“He's changed. What's wrong with him? I don't like the way he stares into space. When I ask him something it's like he's looking through me not at me. Ralph, he scares me. He tried to kill me. There's something different about him. I know you see it too. He's evil. He has an evil soul.”
“Yes, I see it too Caroline. I've notice for quite some time. I was hoping it was my imagination. He's never been a happy child no matter hard we tried. I don't understand where we went wrong Caroline.”
“I don't know darling. We need to figure out what we are going to do about his demeanor. We'll discuss it more tomorrow. Now I need to check on Jason.”
On hearing that, Jason quickly departs back to his room and pretends to be asleep. He hears his door creak open and his mother whisper. “Jason? Jason honey are you asleep?”
Jason doesn't 't make a sound. He wants his mother to go away.
When he doesn't respond, he hears her close the door and walk down the hall to his parents' bedroom.
At a very young age Jason is a smart manipulator. He learns to play his parents. Always making it work toward his advantage. Hurting them if he has to. He can get them to do whatever he wants without them realizing what they are doing. He knew his parents feared him and he fed off that.
The family has too much pride to send Jason to a Child Psychologist or Child Psychiatrist. They believe they can help their son themselves. But as the weeks turned to months and the months to years their efforts fail to produce the results they had hoped for.
One warm spring evening in early May while sitting on the front porch swing sipping iced tea, Caroline dropped a bomb shell.
“Ralph, I have something to tell you.” she said carefully.
“What is it honey?” he questioned looking into her deep blue eyes.
“Ralph, I'm pregnant.”
“What? That can't be. Are you sure?”
“Yes, I'm sure.”
“But... the doctor...”
“I know. This is truly a miracle. And I'm having twins.”
“Twins!
“Yup! Twins!”
Jason, standing near the screen door hears everything. His heart pounding. His fists clinched. His anger building like a pot of boiling water causing his face to burn with fury. At that very moment he wants them dead. But he would wait til his mother had the babies and kill them all.
Seven months later Caroline gives birth to a baby girl Marybell and baby boy Marcus. Upon returning home from the hospital, they see their ten-year-old son perched on the front stoop watching a beetle slowly crawl across a piece of wood.
As they approach him his mother says, “ Jason would you like to meet your new brother and sister?”
Jason slams his foot down on the bug, flips his head up and shoots a glare at his mother like daggers being thrust through her pupils causing shivers prickling down her spine. She steadfastly continues her way to the door keeping her babies out of harm's way.
Jason is now thirteen and feels more detached from his family. After years of being shoved to the side. Being overlooked and feeling unwanted he runs away from home. By now his anger and bitterness has intensified to the point that he felt trapped. He feels disconnected with his family and fears he may do something he might regret. After all he is developing intensely violent feelings of hatred for his family especially his siblings. Rage is burning deep inside of him.
Walking the streets late one night he's approached by a group of hoodlums.
“Ay,” the gang leader nods.
“Ay,” Jason replies
“The names Tony. What's yours?”
“Jason.”
“You wanna come join our gang? We're the Black Hawk Gang. Meanest bad asses in town.”
“Sure, why not. I don't have anywhere I gotta be.”
“Welcome man.” Tony says as he grabs Jason's neck in his elbow and rubs his head with his gold knuckled fist. They all strut off down the street as if they didn't have a care in the world.
Within a few months Jason learns the ropes of the gang. As part of the initiation phase, he was awarded a shiny new pocketknife which he carries constantly.
The time Jason was in the gang he committed robbery, car theft, beatings and rape but never killings. At seventeen he leaves the gang. The years in the gang had not changed his feelings towards his family. In fact it made them stronger. He wanted them dead now more than ever and he was going to do just that. He had to devise a plan. Catching them off guard was vital.
Jason spends hours watching his family's comings and goings. He knows when they leave for work or school and when they return. He knows when they are in for the evening. Every time he observes his family the stronger the feelings to kill grow. The words scream in his head, 'kill them! They all must die!' He has no conscious of right or wrong only that they have to die. It is time to get his revenge.
On a muggy summer evening in July Jason makes his move. He sees his brother and sister sitting on the couch eating popcorn while watching T.V. The time is perfect. With the knife hidden in a pocket of his leather jacket, he cautiously makes his way to the kitchen door. Finding it locked he retrieves the key from under a flowerpot. He proceeds through the kitchen to the living room where he approaches his unsuspecting victims. Jumping over the back of the couch and sliding himself between them he said, “Hi kiddos,” with a snarly grin.
Marybell replied, “Hi Jason. What are you doing here?”
“Where's mom and dad?”
“Upstairs.” Marcus said. “They told us to watch T.V. They would be down in a little while.”
“Good”
“What do you want Jason?” Marcus asked.
“Revenge.”
And with that Jason swiftly and effortlessly slit their throats. The scent of their blood overwhelming his senses. He watches as their lifeless bodies slump to the side then he jumps back over the couch and waits at the bottom of the stairs for his parents. His heart pounding like the rapid beat of war drums. Adrenaline spiking as the high of the killings intensify his urge to kill more.
He could hear them talking and laughing. Within a few minutes they descend down the stairs arms wrapped around each other's waist. Perfect for Jason. All he needs to do is reach across their bodies and slit their throats. They didn't have time to react. As blood gushes from their necks they tumble down the remaining stairs crashing to the floor.
Jason is engulfed with a high no drug can produce. He can feel his soul getting darker and darker. He drinks in the feeling and he wants more. Next, he needs to kill the Griffin family to protect their eight-year-old son Michael. But unbeknownst to Jason. The Griffin family is the all- American perfect family. They do not shun Michael. They all love each other deeply. They treat Michael and his twin siblings as equals.
Jason observes this family as he did his own. But killing this family is going to be more gruesome. More rage induced. More blood and gore. He's going to pull off the most malicious killings with the utmost expertise in cold-blooded murder. He wants this family to suffer in honor of his family.
Two weeks to the day at exactly the same hour Jason makes his way to the back door of the Griffin home. He sees Mrs. Griffin attending to the family dinner. He slips through the door and before she can make the slightest sound he grabs her hair, jerks her head back and makes a long deep slash from ear to ear exposing raw flesh and hot blood. Her limp body falls to the floor. This exhilarates him to a new level of pure evil. He licks the blood from the knife. “Oh ya,” he whispers to himself.
Walking through the dining room towards the living room he sees the twins watching television. He won't kill them yet. He wants the father. Quietly he slithers his way up the stairs. Once he reaches the landing he hears running water. Perfect, he thinks to himself. Unaware of the impending danger Mr. Griffin whistles a happy tune while finishing his shower. As soon as he shuts off the water and opens the curtain, he is met with a sharp stab to the chest causing him to slip and fall. He tries to yell out but the knife stabs his juggler as he gasps for air. Jason brings the knife across the throat ending with a wide prominent gash exposing tissue and muscle. He then drags the body to the landing and pushes him down the stairs.
He yells out in extreme pleasure. “Yes! Yes! I want more!” He beats his knife on the banister. Holding it high up in the air he screeches in a horrendous monstrous voice. “Bring me more! I need more bodies! I must kill!”
This racket causes the twins to run to where the noise is coming from. They scream in panic as they see their father lying in a pool of blood. Escape is not going to be an option. Jason reaches out and grabs the boy first, penetrating the knife through his Adam's apple. The girl screams but is unable to move. She's frozen in pure shock.
“So, you're going to make this easy for me? I don't think so.”
The young girl still can't move.
“OK, if you insist.” Jason goes to the girl. He takes her hand and places it on the pocketknife. He then guides it across her soft little neck revealing a perfectly open slash.
She doesn't whimper, cry or scream out. This infuriates Jason. He wants her to show pain. To suffer. But she doesn't. Oh, but she will thought Jason.
Picking her body off the floor and sitting her upright on the stairs he then takes the bloody knife and decapitates her.
He observes his killing scene and is incredibly pleased. He now feels complete, whole.
Two years after the brutal murders commented by him. Jason kneels at the grave ravenously digging at the ground like a mad dog as if he's trying to uncover his parents. Eyes as dark as evil glares at the mound of dirt. Spittle flows from his mouth as he spits out the words, “show yourself! Show the evil that's in you. You say you're parents! You were never parents! Slitting your throat was not good enough. I want to bash you face against the stone!”
With bloody knuckles he beats on the headstone which encases the loving words 'Here Lies Ralph and Caroline beloved parents to Marybell and Marcus.
“You never loved me!” Monstrous screams escape his lips. Unlike anything ever heard. “I hate you! I've always hated you!”
A battle between his lost soul and his soul that wants to be free is leaving him feeling trapped, a prisoner in his own skin, desperately craving the air of redemption. His soul fights with his conscience. “I wanted to love you! You wouldn't let me! You hated me when you first saw me. I felt it!”
Jason grabs his hair with tight clinched fists shaking his head sobbing. “I didn't want to kill Marybell and Marcus, but they were in the way of you both loving me.” Now he gently caresses their names on the head stone. “I didn't know what else to do. I tried to gain your attention and love for years but neither one of you would let me in. If I killed them and they were out of the way you would then love me.” He could feel his anger and frustration building. “But instead, you isolated me. Treated me as an outcast. You gave Marybell and Marcus everything. You gave me nothing. In my loneliness and seclusion through the years I tried to forget and forgive but I couldn't. I grew to hate all of you even more. And that other family I murdered, they deserved it. They were just like our family. I didn't want Michael to suffer like I did.”
He feels his siblings reaching up from the grave and scratching and clawing at his back. He screams out in pain. The evil has enveloped him so much that his soul is dark and lost. In that split second, he takes his knife and with the help of his demented soul plunges it deep into his heart. At precisely that moment a sinister dark cloud expels from his lifeless body.
He is finally free.
