The Story of Ringo Star
Born 1960, F, from San Antonio Texas, United States
Richard Starkey born on July, Nineteen forty
at war with Germany, Richard was age three
next ten years in and out of hospital.
Mom held back the tears stoically soldiered on
a time when people were strong.
Elsie Starkey married Harry Graves.
Richard was thirteen,
just entering his teens.
Stepdad Harry bought young Richard a Drum kit,
encouraged him to play it.
Stepson climbed the step ladder of success.
Changed his name to Ringo Starr.
Rings on every finger no less.
Looked to his stepdad as his real pa.
His Pa, painting decorating with great finesse.
Elsie and stepdad Harry didn’t want a new address
even after the fab-four released their first single
love love me do
in October sixty-two.
It didn’t set the world alight But with Pease, Please me
then reaching the top of the charts From Me to You.
The world heard ‘From Me to You’
It was regularly in the queue.
He was a visionary and an accurate predictor
that he knew they were going to be very big
The world became obsessed with the Beatles.
Ringo climbed the step ladder to the big time
became Sir Richard Starkey worked very hard.
Success well earned. A truly great drummer kept perfect time, with Harrison’s
“Long Long” song,
not surprising as that track was a true throng.
After revolution nine he sang
Good night beautifully for King John.
Became an actor and played himself in days long gone.
He co-wrote with Lennon, McCartney on what goes on
his own self written song.
The latter on Abbey Road their recorded swansong.
Despite the early years when he was often quite sick
soon to turn eighty-six.
His great love and affection for his stepdad still lingers
he told the world that his fingers,
were all blistery
the rest is history.
I have always had a huge crush of Ringo. I used to say “Love, Love, Me do.”
