The tale of Medusa and Persues co-horts

In the myth, Medusa is a beautiful mortal woman who is a maiden serving in the temple of the goddess Athena. The god Neptune rapes her in the temple. Athena is angered by this blasphemy. Athena transforms the beautiful maiden into a grotesque gorgon with a face that literally turns anyone who catches her gaze into stone.

The best-known myth recounts her fateful encounter with Perseus. A king demanded that he bring a gift, the head of Medusa. The gods, provided him with divine tools.

Perseus did not realize that Medusa was not asleep. She was wide awake. She saw that he had a polished shield so that she could not look directly at him. She spoke to him and said, “If you will not kill me, I will be forever your Subject."

I will cover my eyes and snakes.I will command my snakes not to bite or kill you.

Persueus spoke,”But I must kill you, the King Polydectes, had demanded that I bring him your head. If I fail my mother will be forced into a loveless Marriage.

Medusa laughed, a Gorgon laugh is hideous. She offered him a bargain.”If you spare my life, I will turn your evil king into stone. We should call upon King Midas. After I turn him into stone, Midas will turn him into gold. You can hit him with a heavy mallet. He will break into thousands of pieces of gold. You will be richer than the gods them selves.

Perseus spoke  ”But what if King Midas will not help us?” Medusa once again laughed. Persues covered his ears and cried out in pain. “Please do not laugh, this is torture to me."

“I promise I will never again laugh within your presence.”Perseus accepted her bargain. She covered her eyes and snake hair with cloth so thick and dark that Perseus could easily kill her. But Perseus being a hero would not go back on his promise to her.

They stopped by Phrygia, the kingdom of Midas. They demanded audience with him. Fortunately he was willing to accommodate them.

When Perseus presented their plan, Midas laughed, “I have no problem with Polydectes, our kingdoms are at peace with each other.”Medusa spoke, "I can easily turn you into Stone.Maybe Perseus can take over your land and rule as their King."

King Midas did not fear Death,or an eternity as Stone, but her relented and agreed to accompany them on their quest.

They had to cover themselves and pretend to be Peasants, to sneak into Polydectes, kingdom.

The king was fast asleep, they snuck  into his bed chambers.

Perseus lightly shook Polydectes arm and said, “Your Highness I have brought you Medusa, you must awaken to receive your priceless gift.

Polydectes being a greedy Man quickly opened his eyes and looked, Medusa undid her cloth. King Polydectes got his just reward. He became Stone, Midas touched him, he became solid gold. Then Perseus quickly hit him with a heavy mallet.

Perseus and Medusa offered part of the gold to Midas but he refused. He said, “My greed destroyed my daughter, my only child. I will never touch gold again as long as I live."

Medusa now lives in a beautiful private room in the palace of Perseus. Perseus commanded guards to keep anyone from entering her room. The kitchen staff are instructed to push her meals under a large opening at the foot of her door to deliver her meals.

She lives on the third floor. She has a beautiful window which she can peer out of without harming any human.

The only time she must cover her eyes and snake hair is when she is outside, enjoying the fresh air, and the smell of the beautiful gardens.
