This is such a simple and small thing, but I wanted to share it. Perhaps it struck me this way because my youngest graduated only a few days ago. I don’t know. But here it is.
My 18-year-old son had just returned from a closing shift at his work. He had brought home a specialty sandwich. I was about to turn off my light and go to bed when I heard this between two of my kids:
“Want a few bites of this?”
“I would love a bite of that.”
It wasn’t anything profound. It was just the reminder that my two boys, now grown, can sit at the table as friends. It was the perfect ending to my day.
