The Woman in Muddy Clothes

Susan tossed a coin into the wishing well. She made a wish. She had wished to have her artwork displayed in an art gallery

She later received a letter asking her to come to the most exclusive art gallery to have her artworks considered.

As Susan made her way to the gallery she was completely drenched by a passing car. Her brand-new dress and high heels were ruined by the muddy water. Not to mention her costly hair style was flat and her carefully applied make-up smeared from this filthy water. Her oversized briefcase containing her artwork, for consideration was beyond help.

A  handsome man ran to her side. He spoke with a polished accent. “Oh my dear Lady what an unfortunate happanstance.”

Her eye contacts had also been dirtied by this water.  She blinked her Eyes, this slighty cleared her vision. Standing before her was the most charming man she had ever laid her eyes on.

He asked, “May I escort you somewhere that you may change your clothing, and perhaps a quick shower will put you in a better situation?”

She sighed and said, “I am already overdue to an important meeting.” I was to show my artwork to the hoity-toity Man, Sir Reginald Windsor, who owns the most exclusive art gallery in town. I hear he is a distant relative of the English Monarchy.”

He cleared his throat, I know this Man well. He is indeed a hoity-toity man. He is the upper-crust of the upper-crust of society. He has been described as a condescending snob.

Susan’s face blushed, she stammered, “You’re not Sir Reginald Windsor are you?” He gave a deep bow at his waist and said, “At your service My Lady. As I asked before may I escort you somewhere to remedy your situation?”

Susan shook her head and rolled her eyes. “To the tallest building so that I may throw myself off the roof. I have already made quite an impression.”

“Oh no dear Lady, you don’t want to ruin your beautiful body. I can see the beauty beneath this modern day mess.”

She declined his generous offer. I will just walk, no taxi will pick me up, I would ruin the interior. He again offered, “I drive a modern but modest car, don’t want to be to hoity-toity do I?”

Susan’s face once again blushed, “I have an idea, I keep most of my works in an air-conditioned storage unit. I will give you the address and the key. You can look at these by yourself so that you won’t be pressured to say nice things about my art.

He once again laughed, “My dear I am a condensending snob. I never feel pressured to be a nice person.” at this Susan laughed.

Susan gave in and allowed Sir Reginald to drive her home. He had draped a painters cloth over the passenger seat.

Outside of her modest apartment building she handed the keys to her storage unit and gave him the address, and her phone number.

He asked, “Even if your art isn’t a good fit for the gallery, may I call you. I would love to get to know you?”

Susan smiled, “Sure, of course.”

Susan’s artwork was not chosen, but she was. She and Reginald are to be married in one year. She is a bit insecure because people made snide remarks, like. “The Knight in shining armor, has rescued the common maid in peasant clothes.

She overcame the insecurity and they lived happily ever after, well for most of the time.

Cinderella at her muddiest! I liked the story, but wish it was more filled in. It had more promised.
