A New Danger

Jayden and her boyfriend Michael were following a trail through the Ridgeview Mountains. The path wound through tall pines, their branches swaying gently in the morning breeze. Every few minutes, Jayden stopped to admire the view behind them. The valley below looked smaller with each step they climbed. 

They came to a spot on the mountainside where the highway was visible far below. The road curved through the valley, disappearing behind hills before emerging again in the distance.

We will wait here for Howard,” said Jayden, sitting down on the green grass. 

Michael sat down beside her. He was a little worried about what would happen when they finally encountered Howard, but he tried not to let his anxiety show. Instead, he slipped his arm around Jayden's shoulders and pulled her close.

“I love you,” Michael said softly, kissing her on the cheek.

Jayden smiled and rested her head against him as they waited on the mountainside. The peaceful view before them felt strangely at odds with the confrontation that lay ahead.

For a few moments, neither of them spoke. They simply sat together, drawing comfort from each other's presence.

“No matter what happens,” Jayden said quietly, “we face it together.”

Michael nodded. “Together.”

The wind stirred the grass around them, and somewhere in the distance a bird called from the trees. Despite his fears, Michael felt a little steadier with Jayden beside him.

The magic ring on Jayden's finger began to glow.

“Howard's coming!” shouted Jayden.

At the same moment, the watch on Michael's arm lit up with a pale blue light. Symbols flickered across its face, and a vision appeared before his eyes. He saw what looked like a procession moving along the highway below—a line of thirteen motorcycles riding in formation with a truck following behind them.

Michael's heart sank.

In the back of the truck, Jay and Hailey were tied up.

“Jayden,” he said urgently, pointing toward the vision. “Look.”

She glanced at the glowing watch and immediately understood the seriousness of what it was showing them.

“Get ready,” said Jayden.

Jayden closed her eyes, breathing slowly as she focused.

The glow from her ring steadied, then sharpened into a controlled pulse. Far below, Jay and Hailey drifted upward out of the moving truck as if lifted by an unseen current, rising above the highway and climbing toward the mountainside.

Michael stepped forward as they approached, guiding them carefully as they reached solid ground. He quickly untied them, checking they were steady on their feet.

“You’re safe now,” he said

Jay nodded, still catching his breath. Hailey looked back down toward the highway in disbelief at what she’d just experienced.

Jayden finally opened her eyes. Her expression had changed—calm, but intensely focused. The glow in her ring deepened, no longer scattered, but directed.

With Jay and Hailey safe, her attention shifted fully back to the highway and the approaching convoy.

Jayden steadied herself again, drawing in a slow breath as if she were pulling the world into alignment with it.

Her eyelids stayed shut, but her focus sharpened—cleaner this time, more deliberate.

The ring answered immediately.

Its glow intensified from a steady shimmer into a bright, concentrated radiance, no longer spilling outward randomly but gathering inward first, as though compressing power before release. The light wrapped tightly around her finger, then crept along her hand in thin, controlled strands.

The air around her thickened.

The ground began to shake, massive boulders tore loose from the mountainside, crashing onto the road with explosive force. Only Howard and one henchman named Boz kept their motorcycles pointed forward, charging straight into the chaos. The others turned back in panic, swerving hard to avoid the rocks already blocking the road and those still tumbling down from above.

The truck driver slammed the gear into reverse, attempting to escape. But Jayden locked her focus on the vehicle, and it suddenly lurched forward instead, accelerating straight toward Howard and Boz. Startled by the oncoming truck closing in from behind, Howard lost control—his motorcycle skidded, flipped, and crashed hard onto the road.

Jayden opened her eyes, and the glow from the ring faded instantly.

Without hesitation, Jayden, Michael, Jay, and Hailey sprinted down a nearby trail, racing to

ward the highway to cut off Howard before he could escape.

Boze, a three-foot-tall teenager with spiky hair, stood over Howard, who lay unconscious but still breathing on the highway. 

“Boss!” Boze screamed, shaking him in a desperate attempt to wake him. Howard's soul ascended into a realm of darkness filled with red square blocks. 

A glowing figure, holding a magical golden staff appeared and spoke sternly, “Howard, you have failed me, and now I will send your soul to the Umbral Realm.“Please, master, forgive me for failing you. Give me another chance,” Howard begged.The glowing figure extended the golden staff, and Howard's soul vanished into the Umbral Realm.

Back on the highway, Howard took one last gasp of breath.“No!” Boze screamed, kneeling over Howard’s lifeless body.

Jayden, her stepsister Emma, boyfriend Michael, Jay, and Hailey came running up to where Howard's lifeless body lay, with Boze kneeling beside it.

“What have I done?” cried Jayden, trying to cover her face in despair.

“You killed my boss, and now you’re going to pay,” Boze said fiercely, pulling out a deck of magic cards from his pocket.

“When I defeat you in a shadow game, your miserable soul will be sent to the Umbral Realm,” said Boze 

Jayden closed her eyes, focusing hard to summon her deck of magic cards. Exhausted from using her powers, she collapsed to the ground.

"What's the matter, little girl? Did you use all your energy murdering my boss?" Boze taunted, mocking Jayden’s weakened state. 

Suddenly, the magic bracelet on Hailey’s wrist began to glow."That’s enough!" Hailey said, her voice strangely firm and commanding as she stepped forward. "You’re nothing but a coward who only knows how to be someone else’s servant. "I'm not a coward," Boze shot back. "And I’m going to make you regret saying that.” 

Hailey crossed her arms, holding a deck of magic cards in her right hand."Then prove it by playing me instead of Jayden," she challenged. "If you win, I’ll take her place in the Umbral Realm”."You have a deal," Boze replied.

Hailey and Boze stood across from each other. Each drew five cards from their decks while their other thirty-one cards magically floated beside them, glowing with swirling energy.

Ready?" Boze asked with a grin.

Hailey nodded. 

The battle began immediately. Boze summoned a fierce stone beast that shook the ground with every step. Hailey answered by calling forth a swift winged dragon that darted through the air. Monster after monster appeared as the duel intensified, magical attacks flashing across the playing field.

For a while, Boze held the advantage. His creatures formed a powerful defense, forcing Hailey onto the back foot. Jayden, Michael, and Jay watched as Hailey's life points steadily dropped.

But Hailey remained calm. She studied the field, then drew her next card.

"This is what I've been waiting for," she said.

She played a combination of cards that strengthened her dragon and weakened Boze's strongest monster. With a brilliant burst of light, her dragon shattered Boze’s defenses and cleared the field.

"No way!" Boze exclaimed.

Hailey raised her final card. "Dragon King's Final Strike!"

Her dragon unleashed a massive beam of energy that swept across the playing field. Boze's remaining monsters vanished, and his life points fell to zero.

This is not over, I will be back and next time I will not lose and will send both you and Jayden’s miserable soul to the Umbral Realm,” said Boze. Celebrating her victory Michael and Jay hugged Hailey. Jayden with her head down trying to prevent anyone seeing the tears rolling down her cheeks slowly walked off. Michael was the first to see her walking off. He called out to Jayden but she didn't pay any attention.

Jayden walked into the kitchen of the haunted-looking farmhouse. She sat down at the kitchen table and began to cry.

 Her adopted sister, Emma, came in, excitedly announcing that she and Data-G-01 had successfully recovered the Intergalactic Time Space Continuum Tube.“Jayden, what’s wrong?” Emma asked, putting her arm around her. Jayden didn’t answer, only continued to cry

The others soon walked in. “Baby, what’s wrong?” Michael asked, sitting down beside her.“I’m not worthy of the powers I was granted,” Jayden said.“What do you mean?” Michael asked, gently rubbing her back.“Instead of using my powers for good, I used them to kill someone,” Jayden confessed, tears flowing as her conscience troubled her.

Data-G-01 reached into a compartment on his chest and took out a cup filled with a glowing green potion. “Drink this. It will help you feel better,” he said, placing the cup beside Jayden.“What the freak is this?!” Jayden exclaimed, taking a hesitant sip.

“Drink it,” Data-G-01 urged. Jayden slowly choked down the strange drink. Almost immediately, she saw a vision of herself and William on a mountaintop, sharing a picnic and laughing. Her tears stopped, and a smile appeared. The vision continued with Michael leaning over to kiss her. Suddenly, the vision shattered like broken glass, and everything went black as the potion erased her memory of recent events.

Jayden, now relaxed, sat at the table. The ring on her finger began to glow. Closing her eyes, she saw a vision. 

Howard stood in a vast black space scattered with red square blocks. Then, a glowing figure appeared, holding a golden staff. Jayden tried to focus to make out the figure, but she couldn't. The vision ended with Howard's soul vanishing into the Umbral Realm.

Jayden opened her eyes in panic. “There is someone else out there trying to destroy our world and this realm,” she said, clutching her chest and gasping for breath, close to having a panic attack.“Jayden, are you okay?” asked Emma.“Baby, are you alright?” Michael added, concerned.

Jayden sat there, gasping, but her breathing slowly returned to normal. Data-G-01 began scanning her. “She is okay, but for some odd reason, her powers took her to a realm she should never have entered,” said Data-G-01.

Jayden slowly rose from the table. “I need some air,” she said, walking toward the front door. 

Jayden was sitting on the old wooden porch when Hailey came outside and sat down beside her.

"Are you okay? We were all worried about you," Hailey said.

"I'm okay," Jayden replied.

"Please let me see your hand," said Hailey.

Jayden felt a little uncomfortable at Hailey's request, but she held out her arm. Hailey took her hand and held it tightly.

"Concentrate on the last thing you saw," Hailey said, closing her eyes.

Jayden and Hailey entered the same vast space filled with red squares. They saw Howard and the strange glowing figure once again.

Hailey focused on the figure holding the staff. As she concentrated, she began to see more than just a glowing silhouette. The figure was a young man, around twenty-one years old, with brown hair cut in a flat top style. He wore a black button-up shirt and a necklace around his neck.

Knowing that Jayden could not remain in the realm for long, Hailey opened her eyes, and the vision faded away.

"I saw the person you were talking about," Hailey said.

"You mean you saw more than just a glowing image?" Jayden asked.

"I did," Hailey replied.

They went back inside, where Hailey described the person she had seen to Data-G-01.

Data-G-01 began calculating probabilities.

"According to my database, it is possible that the person you saw was Dr. Mustissac," said Data-G-01.

Data-G-01 stood silently as he calculated thousands of probabilities, incorporating Dr. Mustissac into his algorithms. Streams of data flashed across his optical sensors as he processed the new information.

Suddenly, he stopped.

"We need to activate the Intergalactic Time-Space Continuum Tube immediately," said Data-G-01 in a calm robotic tone. "Our worlds may be in serious danger."

The room fell silent.

"What do you mean, our worlds?" Jayden asked.

"If Dr. Mustissac has returned," replied Data-G-01, "the threat extends far beyond Earth. Multiple dimensions could be at risk.”
