A new Bond of Friendship

Jayden and Hailey spent the entire day searching for the three special Magic Cards—Asterion, Nyxara, and Tharos. Frustrated and exhausted, they returned to the old barn that served as the team's command center. Rows of computers constantly calculated probabilities and algorithms while others waited for commands.

Jayden's boyfriend Michael and friend Jay were already there. Their expressions made it clear they had been just as unsuccessful.

"Any luck?" Jay asked.

"Nothing," Hailey replied with a discouraged sigh.

After taking a moment to catch her breath, Jayden realized someone was missing.

"Where's Emma?" she asked, panic beginning to creep into her voice.

Guardian 20276-7 turned toward her.

"Our sensors indicate that Emma activated her powers in a forest near an old cemetery."

Jayden's face turned pale.

"Oh my gosh... they got her!" she cried, dropping to her knees.

Michael clenched his fists.

“I'm going to that forest. If they've hurt Emma, they'll answer to me."

Just as Michael turned to leave, the barn doors swung open.

Emma and Data-G-01 walked inside.

"Emma!" Jayden shouted, rushing over and wrapping her adopted sister in a tight hug. "Where have you been?"

Emma smiled apologetically.

There was this creepy rare-card collector who stole Boze's cards.  I defeated him and returned the cards to Boze. Under the Rare Card Collectors' By-Laws, any collector who loses must surrender their rarest Magic Card to the victor.She handed Jayden the magic card.

Jayden examined it carefully.

"'Soul of Ankh,'" she read aloud.

Guardian 20276-7 immediately began running calculations across the surrounding computer systems.

My worst fears are coming true," Guardian 20276-7 said. "Mustissac has unleashed Card Hunters to hunt down Shadow Game players and turn them into Mind Slaves. Meanwhile, rare collectors who possess powerful Magic Cards continue searching for legendary cards to add to their collections. If the Card Hunters capture enough of those collectors and seize their cards, Mustissac could assemble a force that would be nearly unstoppable.”

He analyzed the newly acquired card before looking at Emma.

Emma, this is an exceptionally rare Magic Card," Guardian 20276-7 said. "Soul of Ankh allows its wielder to summon Ankh without first collecting the five cards normally required. The cost is steep—you must discard every card from your hand, deck, and graveyard—but in return, Ankh is summoned instantly.”

"Hailey frowned.

"If collectors are carrying cards like this, there's no telling what other rare Magic Cards are still out there."

Guardian 20276-7 nodded grimly. "That's exactly what worries me.”

Data-G-01's sensors detected an unidentified presence just outside the old, haunted-looking farmhouse.

"Intruder alert," Data-G-01 announced as he activated his intruder protocol. A compartment in his chest slid open, and he drew a laser gun, aiming it toward the entrance.

“My sensors identify the intruder as Boze," Guardian 20276-7 said.

Hailey frowned.

"What is that little creep doing here?"

Keeping his laser gun aimed ahead, Data-G-01 slowly and quietly advanced toward the old barn door, his finger resting near the trigger. Jayden and Emma followed closely behind him.

As they stepped outside, they found Boze walking cautiously toward the barn.

"Put your hands in the air!" Data-G-01 commanded, keeping his weapon trained on him.

Boze immediately raised his hands.

"Boze?" Jayden asked, lowering her guard slightly. "What are you doing here?"

Boze looked at Emma before answering.

"I've been doing a lot of thinking about what happened with Howard... and about what Emma did for me.” 

Sit down and explain yourself," Data-G-01 ordered, keeping his laser gun trained on Boze to prevent him from getting any closer to the team's command center inside the old barn.

Boze slowly lowered himself onto the ground, keeping his hands where Data-G-01 could see them.

"I was an orphan," Boze said, his voice trembling. "I kept running away from foster homes. Then I met Howard. He took me in... and treated me like I was his own son."

His composure began to crumble.

"And you experienced a love you had never felt before," Emma said softly.

As the words left her mouth, memories of her own time in foster care flooded back. The magic necklace 

around her neck began to glow with a gentle light as she felt the overwhelming sadness in Boze's heart. The pain was so intense that she could no longer bear it.

Tears streamed down her face as she sank to the ground.

Boze sensed the same mysterious power connecting them. He slowly sat beside Emma and gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders, offering comfort even as he struggled with his own grief.

Jayden looked from Emma to Boze, then toward Data-G-01, a confused expression spreading across her face as she tried to understand the extraordinary scene unfolding before her.

The necklace Emma was wearing began to glow, and a brilliant light descended from the sky, bathing them in its radiance. Suddenly, two black, amorphous blobs with glowing red eyes rose from Boze’s body. As the shadowy entities ascended, the focused beams of light shifted, pouring all their energy onto the blobs and banishing them into the Umbral Realm.

Boze stood up and helped Emma to her feet. Her necklace dimmed, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Boze felt truly free—like a new person. He walked over to Jayden and extended his hand.

“I’m sorry for the way I acted on Ridgeview Mountain,” Boze said sincerely. “I hope you can forgive me… and that we can become friends.”

Jayden clasped his hand firmly. “Apology accepted. I hope we can be friends too.”

Hailey, who had seen the bright lights from the barn and grown worried about Jayden and Emma, came running out. She stopped short at the sight of Boze.

“What is going on?” she exclaimed.

“Hailey,” Boze said, turning to her and offering his hand again, “I want to ask for your forgiveness as well. Hopefully one day we can be friends.”

Hailey stared in shock, clearly struggling to process the change. After a hesitant moment, she reached out and shook his hand.

Guardian 20276-7 sent a telepathic message to Data-G-01 who relayed it aloud: “Guardian wants everyone to report to the command center.”

Jayden, Emma, and Hailey started walking toward the old barn. Boze remained standing where he was.

“That includes you,” Data-G-01 added.

Boze stepped inside the barn and looked around in amazement at the array of advanced computers and glowing consoles. “Greetings, Boze,” said Guardian 20276-7.

Boze was stunned—an intergalactic being he had never met knew his name. “As you are aware,” the Guardian continued, “Mustissac and his group of card hunters pose a grave threat to many dimensions and to mankind itself. That is why I have assembled a team of seven to stop them.”

“But there are only six of us,” Michael said, looking puzzled.

“Allow me to introduce the newest—and final—member of the team,” Guardian 20276-7 replied.

A swirling warp vortex opened, and a twelve-year-old girl with black hair and warm brown eyes stepped through.

“Rain!” Boze cried out, rushing forward and pulling her into a tight hug. The rest of the group exchanged surprised glances.

“Everyone, this is Rain,” Boze explained, still holding onto her. “She was with me when we first went into foster care. I promised her we would never be separated, but we ended up in different foster homes.”

“Boze and Rain, step forward,” said Guardian 20276-7.

A glowing card bearing a heart materialized in Boze’s hand. “Boze, because the darkness and hatred have been removed from your heart, you are now able to wield superpowers. Your abilities come from the heart of the cards.”

Next, a keychain radiating warm sunlight appeared in Rain’s hand. “Rain, your superpowers come from the sun.”

Data-G-01 presented a wooden box containing two decks of magical cards. Boze and Rain each took one.

Later, Emma sat quietly on the front porch of the haunted looking farmhouse, gazing out at the fields. 

Boze stepped outside and sat down beside her.

“You know, you were right,” he said softly.

“About what?” Emma asked.

“The real reason for the Shadow Games.”

Emma smiled and extended her hand. “Maybe when this is all over, we can have a nice friendly game.”

“I’d like that,” Boze replied. He shook her hand, then pulled her into a warm hug.
