Holmium

Achmed stood on the bow of his research ship just off the west coast of Africa. His other ship floated nearly a mile away.

The radio crackled. “Ready to start?” Yasim asked.

Achmed clicked the talk button. “Yes, Sir. The magnet is in place.”

“So is the one on this ship. Turn it on in three, two, one…”

Achmed turned on his half, and the magnet whirled to life. The magnets, using holmium, would create a very strong magnetic field between the two ships.

The ships moved in a circle with a one-mile diameter. Each ship was on the opposite side of the circle, chasing each other along the circumference while the magnetic field connected between them. The salt water, a great conductor, swirled clockwise between the two ships.

“It’s working, let’s pick up speed.” Yasim’s voice crackled through the radio.

“Yes, sir.” Achmed increased the speed of his ship and watched the sister ship go faster, too. “How many of these will we do?”

“One every day, until we destroy our enemy. The currents will take them to different places along the entire eastern seaboard of the United States—Washington DC, New York, and NASA at Cape Canaveral. Then we’ll take our ships to the Pacific Ocean and hit the western United States.”

“Your plan is brilliant. Ever since 9/11, the Department of Homeland Security has made it harder to enter the United States. They’re onto us terrorists. Even with all of our new ISIS recruits in the states, it’s nearly impossible to destroy Americans from within.”

The water swirled even more. It resembled a tornado in the water, spinning stronger because of the holmium magnets generating a strong magnetic field.

“Let’s go faster,” Yasim yelled through the radio.

The newly-formed tropical depression swirled in the water. It would gain strength and size as it crossed the Atlantic Ocean, heading to the United States. I would become a category five hurricane by the time it reached their enemy.
