Hunter
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesNight settled over the narrow alley, where long shadows swallowed the light from the street beyond. Hunter, one of Mustissac's masked henchmen, stood waiting in a flowing purple paenula. His face was hidden behind a smooth black mask, and glowing white eyes stared unblinkingly at the player who challenged him in the Shadow Game.
The rules had been clear from the beginning. Victory meant freedom. Defeat meant becoming one of Mustissac's loyal servants.
The duel raged until the challenger was barely able to stand.
Hunter raised his hand, dark energy gathering around it.
"This game is over."
He unleashed one final attack. The blast struck with overwhelming force, knocking the player to the ground. Silence filled the alley.
Then a faint violet glow surrounded the fallen challenger.
The light grew brighter, wrapping around them like ribbons of shadow. Their clothing slowly shifted into a flowing purple paenula, while a smooth black mask formed over their face. As the transformation ended, their eyes opened, now shining with the same ghostly white glow as Hunter's.
The newly transformed figure stood motionless for a moment before bowing their head.
"The Shadow Game has chosen," Hunter said with a satisfied smile hidden beneath his mask.
The new henchman quietly took their place beside him, moving with calm, unwavering discipline.
Hunter gave a low, triumphant laugh.

Without another word, Hunter turned and strode into the darkness. His newest follower walked silently behind him, leaving the empty alley as though the duel had never taken place. Only the fading traces of shadow energy remained to mark where the Shadow Game had claimed another competitor.
The next morning, sunlight spilled across the cobblestone streets of the village as Jayden and her boyfriend, Michael, continued their search for the remaining special magic cards: Asterion and Tharos.
Jayden smiled and pointed toward a cozy coffee shop with outdoor seating.
"Let's take a break and have a cappuccino."
"Sounds good," Michael replied.
They settled at a small table beneath a canvas awning. Soon, two steaming cappuccinos were placed before them. Taking a break from their quest, they chatted quietly, their hands clasped across the table as they enjoyed the peaceful morning together.
Hunter stepped onto the patio carrying a folded newspaper. His distinctive purple paenula was mostly hidden beneath a plain traveler's cloak, helping him blend into the crowd. He selected a table a short distance away and unfolded a newspaper.
To anyone watching, he appeared absorbed in the morning headlines.
In reality, he lowered the paper just enough to scan the café and the street beyond. His sharp gaze lingered on passersby, quietly evaluating the people around him. He was always alert for someone who might know something useful—or someone who might eventually become an opponent in a Shadow Game.
Hunter remained outwardly calm, occasionally turning a page to maintain the appearance of an ordinary traveler.
The peaceful atmosphere outside the coffee shop vanished in an instant.
A young boy sprinted across the village square, tears streaming down his face. He stopped beside Hunter's table, breathing hard as he pointed an accusing finger.
"What did you do to my father?" the boy cried. "Give him back!"
Hunter slowly lowered his newspaper, regarding the child with cold indifference.
"I don't have time for you, brat.”
With a dismissive shove, he pushed the boy backward. The child stumbled and fell onto the cobblestones.
Gasps spread through the nearby tables.
Jayden was on her feet before she realized it. She hurried over and helped the boy stand.
"Are you hurt?" she asked.
The boy wiped away his tears and shook his head, though he clung tightly to Jayden's arm.
Hunter clicked his tongue in annoyance. The quiet disguise he had maintained all morning had been shattered. Curious villagers had begun staring at him instead of returning to their breakfasts.
Michael stepped beside Jayden, his expression hardening.
"You picked the wrong person to push," he said.
Hunter rose slowly from his chair. He folded the newspaper with deliberate care and set it on the table.
"So," he said, "someone recognizes me."
Jayden's eyes narrowed. Beneath the traveler's cloak she caught a glimpse of the unmistakable purple paenula.
"You're one of the Card Hunters."
A faint smile crossed Hunter's hidden face.
"It seems my cover didn't last as long as I'd hoped.”
Jayden stepped forward, placing herself between Hunter and the frightened boy.
"That is enough, you big bully." She met his glowing white eyes without flinching. "You may not have time for him but you better have time for a Shadow Game."
The air around the square grew unnaturally still.
"I was hoping someone worthy would challenge me."
Dark energy gathered around him as his own deck materialized in his hand. Around them, shadows stretched across the cobblestones despite the bright morning sun, signaling that the Shadow Game was about to begin.
The villagers hurried back, forming a wide circle around the two duelists. Michael guided the young boy to safety while keeping his eyes fixed on Hunter.
For a brief moment, neither player moved.
Then Hunter lifted his deck.
"Very well, Jayden," he said. "Let's see if you're strong enough to avoid becoming Mustissac's newest servant.
The village square fell into a tense silence as the Shadow Game fully ignited. The air itself seemed to darken around Jayden and Hunter, as if the world had narrowed down to nothing but their duel.
Hunter stood calm and composed, his purple paenula shifting subtly as shadow energy coiled around him. His black mask hid any expression, but his glowing white eyes locked onto Jayden with unsettling focus.
Jayden gripped her deck tightly, forcing herself to ignore the pressure building in the air.
A surge of dark energy marked the beginning of the duel.
Cards were drawn. The Shadow Game took hold.
Hunter starts aggressively, playing Shadow Fang (1800 ATK) and setting a face-down card before ending his turn.
Jayden summons Lunar Sentinel (1700 ATK) and activates Moonlight Surge, increasing its Attack to 2100. Lunar Sentinel defeats Shadow Fang.
Hunter summons Void Reaper (2400 ATK). It destroys Lunar Sentinel, but Jayden's trap, Mirror Eclipse, reflects part of the damage.
Jayden summons Solar Phoenix (2500 ATK). Phoenix defeats Void Reaper and remains on the field.
Hunter plays everything he has, summoning Night Tyrant (2800 ATK). It looks like Jayden is cornered.
Jayden draws her final card.
"I activate Eclipse Ascension!"
Solar Phoenix transforms into Eclipse Dragon Sovereign (4000 ATK). Its special ability destroys Night Tyrant and clears Hunter's remaining defenses.
"Eclipse Dragon Sovereign, finish this with Celestial Shadow Blast!"
The attack lands directly.
Silence returned to the village square.
Hunter staggered in the aftermath of his defeat, the oppressive weight of the Shadow Game still clinging to the air like smoke. His glowing white eyes flickered—then dulled, shifting into a sickly yellow.
He dropped to his knees, clutching his head as if something inside him was being forcibly pulled apart.
“No… no, please—Master… forgive me,” he gasped. “Give me another chance…”
A deeper silence settled over the square. Even the wind seemed to hesitate.
A voice answered from nowhere—and everywhere at once.
“I have no time for those who fail me.”
The words were calm, absolute, and final
From the edge of reality itself, a blade-like presence emerged: the Gildebane. It didn’t swing so much as declare judgment. The air fractured as it passed through Hunter’s very existence.
His expression froze.
A sharp breath escaped him—one last, involuntary gasp.
Then Hunter collapsed face-first onto the cobblestone street just outside the coffee shop. Motionless. The glowing light in his eyes was gone.
For a moment, no one moved.
Then Jayden stepped forward.
Her breathing was uneven, anger still burning through her exhaustion. The ring on her finger pulsed with a faint light, reacting to the lingering magic in the air.
“Mustissac,” she said sharply, looking up toward the empty sky. “Where are you? Show yourself.”
A pause.
Then the same voice returned—calm, distant, almost amused.
“We will meet soon enough.”
Jayden clenched her fists. “I will be waiting.”
Silence followed the exchange, heavier than before.
Jayden’s gaze dropped to the scattered magic cards lying on the ground around her. They still shimmered faintly with residual shadow energy.
She crouched and picked one up.
A smear of dark ink stained her finger immediately.
Her expression tightened.
“These cards…” she said, voice sharp with disgust. “They’re marked. He was a cheat.”
One by one, she gathered as many as she could find. Then, with a sudden burst of frustration, she tore them apart. The cards ripped easily, like paper soaked in corrupted magic.
She flung the fragments into the air.
They scattered across the square like dying embers before dissolving into nothing.
The oppressive presence that had lingered around Hunter finally faded completely, leaving only sunlight, broken silence, and the uneasy realization that something far bigger still loomed over them.
And somewhere beyond that silence, Mustissac was still watching.
