Chapter Two: The First Clue

Emma sat motionless on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone. The message refused to disappear.

"I'm alive. Don't tell anyone."

She blinked several times, hoping she was imagining it. She rubbed her eyes and looked again.

The words were still there.

Just three days earlier, she had stood beside Daniel's grave, watching his coffin disappear beneath the earth. She remembered the tears, the prayers, the flowers, and the painful silence as everyone walked away.

How could a dead man send a text message?

With trembling fingers, she typed a reply.

"Daniel... is this really you?"

She pressed Send.

For several minutes, there was no response. Emma walked nervously around her room, checking her phone every few seconds. Every little sound made her jump.

Then her phone vibrated.

She quickly picked it up.

"Yes. I'm alive. I don't have much time. Don't tell anyone—not your family, not the police, not even my parents."

Emma's heart pounded.

She wanted to ask hundreds of questions.

Where are you?

What happened?

Whose funeral did we attend?

Why are you hiding?

Instead, she typed only one.

"How can I trust this is really you?"

A reply came almost instantly.

"The first gift I ever gave you was a silver bracelet with a tiny heart. You still wear it."

Emma looked down at her wrist.

The bracelet was still there.

No one else knew that detail.

Tears filled her eyes.

Could Daniel really be alive?

Before she could think any further, another message appeared.

"Meet me tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. at the old railway station. Come alone. If anyone follows you, leave immediately. Your life will be in danger."

Emma read the message over and over.

She tried calling Daniel's number.

The call failed.

She tried again.

This time, the phone said the number was unavailable.

Suddenly, every message disappeared from the screen.

The conversation was gone.

Emma searched through her messages, but there was nothing. It was as if the texts had never existed.

The next morning, she barely touched her breakfast. Her mother noticed her silence.

"Emma, are you feeling all right?" she asked gently.

Emma forced a smile.

"I'm just tired."

She couldn't tell anyone what had happened. If the messages were real, Daniel's life could be in danger. If they were fake, someone was playing a dangerous game.

All day, she couldn't concentrate. The mysterious texts kept replaying in her mind.

As the sun began to set, Emma made her decision.

She put on a dark jacket, slipped her phone into her pocket, and quietly left the house.

The streets grew quieter as she approached the abandoned railway station. Rust covered the old tracks, and the wind whistled through the broken buildings.

She checked the time.

7:59 p.m.

One minute later, the old station clock struck eight.

Footsteps echoed behind her.

Emma slowly turned around.

A tall figure wearing a black hood stepped out of the shadows.

Then a familiar voice broke the silence.

"Emma... you came."

Her heart nearly stopped.

It sounded exactly like Daniel.
