The Lost Seashell

There was once a pretty pink sea shell born to the ocean. He was formed deep in the deepest part of the deep dark sea and was lovely beyond compare. He lay on the sea floor for what seemed a very long time until a lonely little crab came along and made him his home. The crab loved his new home and would never go anywhere without it. It gave him security in his new little shell and he would creep all along the ocean floor with it looking for food and such like. The crab and the shell were always happy and became the best of friends as time passed slowly in the deep dark sea. But one day the little crab left his home to look for a mate and a friend in life, hoping to return to his beautiful little shell some time later. Just then a strong current of water came along and washed the little shell far, far away. He was never to see his friend, the happy little crab ever again. The see took him away with itself over many miles of ocean and water, far, far away from home, until at last it washed him out on the sands of some strange tropical beach he had never seen before. Here he lay on the sands of the beach among pebbles and shells and looked at the seagulls singing high, high above in the sky. How pretty they all seemed as they flew and floated above in the blue sky and the clouds of heaven. He could look at them all day as the ocean roared behind him and the gentle wind swept the lonely beach with care and tenderness. The sea, the birds and the sky were all so wonderful that he grew to love it lying there on the beach and watching them all with wonder in his little heart. He lay there on the sand all alone as time passed, dreaming of the beautiful sea until a lovely little lady came along one day and picked him up from the sandy shore. She seemed very pleased at finding him and soon took him far, far away. She lived in the mountains far from the sea and gently put him on her shelf in her bedroom among many other pretty shells of his kind. Here he lay for the longest of time, but the other sea shells seemed to be no company at all, as they could not speak or talk to him on their own. He just lay there year after year gathering dust as time passed slowly on the old shelf. Such a long time had passed the he soon forgot about the sound of the sea and the ocean. He could no longer remember the crabs and the birds. The seas or the sands. He had forgotten all that he knew when he was younger and as time passed he became just another lonely old sea shell stuck on the lady’s shelf forever. When would love ever find him again? When would he ever be happy and free? He cried a lonely sigh to himself and had no memories of love and the joy and the sea anymore. But one day a little boy came into the lovely lady’s room and soon picked him up from where he lay lonely on that old shelf. The boy put the shell to his ear and listened carefully as he could hear the sound of the sea and the surf deep inside the little shell and smiled to himself happily. The shell and the boy listened to the roar of the ocean from deep within himself for a very long time. And just then the little shell could remember it all. The happy little crab and the ocean. The sands and the sea and the surf. The lovely seagulls screeching high above in the sky. How beautiful the sound of the sea was. How wonderful and free. The boy took the shell away to his little room and would listen to the wonders of the sea deep inside him often. He was free and at home at last, deep in the heart of the little boy child. How good it was to be loved once more. How good it was to be home. Will wonders never cease? No, I guess they never will really. The sea is home to us all.
