At the top of Pike's Peak
Born 1960, F, from San Antonio Texas, United States
In July 2022 my husband Scott and I went to Colorado for vacation and to celebrate our Anniversary.
We wanted to visit Pike’s Peak, and I wanted to visit my brother, Sammy, and his wife, Paula.
The visit with Sam and Paula was pleasant. They drove us to The Rocky Mountain National Park. My husband, my brother and Paula climbed the steep staircase, also known as The Alpine Ridge Trail. Â I made it about 1/4 of the way up. The thin air was too much for me.
They also took us to the Stanley Hotel where the Stephen King movie, The Shining  was filmed, REDRUM, REDRUM.
My husband and I also visited Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Scott’s friend Arlene warned us the day was going to be a hot one. The temperature was around 91 but low humidity. This was a cool pleasant day compared the the Hot, Humid climate in San Antonio.
The true amazement for me was Pike’s Peak. We traveled up to the peak by way of The Cog Railway, A joy in itself. At the base of the peak it was 90. At the peak it was 30 with light snow flurries.
I was in awe of the clouds swirling just below the Peak. Some of the clouds reached the Peak and I stood in the midst of them.
I wrote a poem to express how wonderful this was.
Â
I was standing In the midst Of a cloud.
I was atop Pikes peak. The clouds Were swirling And enveloping me.
I was freezing Yet I cared not. It was like being in Heaven Yet I was alive.
Can Heaven be more beautiful? Maybe so, maybe not. But this beautiful Heaven I lived through and can share with others.
A great and pleasant vacation for us and sweet memories.

07/26/2026Thank you Gerald. Colorado is a beautiful place. The cost of living there has made moving there impossible. You are a lucky individual to live in such beauty.

07/24/2026The first time I visited Pikes Peak was when I was nine years old. We were visiting my aunt and cousins who live in Colorado and we drove up the mountain. When we finally got to the top, I was okay for a while and then suddenly didn't feel so well. I had a terrible stomach and couldn't understand why, so I didn't get to enjoy teh view. I found out later it was because of altitude.
But I am glad that you got to experience Pikes Peak.

07/24/2026Thank you Kanesha. I was dizzy, probably the altitude. But I loved it. Thank you for reading. You could write a story about your time spent at Pike's Peak.
