I Went To Bed Hungry
Born 2000, F, from Boston, Massachusetts, United States
I went to bed hungry
But it wasn’t for fashion
or fame
because my house got blown up
And now I’m afraid
The children sleep
They sleep in the mud
Their beds are no more
Now we ONLY have love
I asked daddy why
He said the bad guys are outside
We can’t flee
We can’t fight
I put out my light
And went to bed hungry
I went to bed hungry
Because mommy said “No!”
And when she went to bed
I slipped into the night
I crept into the hall
And slid down the stairs
There’s crackers to spare
I took maybe 5
No need to share
Mommy heard me and came down
She made me feel light
In the morning my head hurt
And my eye black as night
Next thing I know I had to turn on the light
I went to bed hungry
I went to bed hungry
Because the world can be cruel
I got called fat by the kids at school
They said my hair is greasy
And my clothes are too tight
They said I look like I’m homeless
And I’m only 8
They told me I smell
And my face is not right
They told me to die
So tonight I fight
I went to bed hungry
