My 2-in-1 Notions On Fun
Born 2005, M, from Derby, United Kingdom
Somewhere in Meditations - I rediscovered it was in Book II, by the legendary Marcus Aurelius, he speaks of a certain melancholy and poignance in pursuing too much knowledge.
His exact words:
“Nothing is more miserable than a person who endlessly seeks knowledge about everything around them.”
This is precisely how consuming too much of the news, social media and politics corrupts our already flawed human state.
In short, you know s**t but you don’t think, or think to use. We are blinded so greatly by others' opinions we forget our nature: Fun, to seek fun, to accept fun things into our lives.
Human spirits exist to thrive, thrive in thought especially…
Remember my child, we live to think and feel, that’s where wonder lies. To know something is to accept reality, but to understand a timeline, where we exist upon it, and what we’re capable of - that’s when fun occurs.
To realise our existence has many possibilities for us and our surrounding company also contributes heavily to this, we are allowed to act as seekers with curiosity.
Facts, knowledge, information: these concepts aren’t inherently interesting, but comprehension of how they came to be are. There is a thrill in connecting a single detail to a source, and then predicting if/how the detail evolves.
Seeing reality as linear isn’t fun at all, being open to the new, the logical, and the calming ways our minds’ perceive time is.

Where’s the fun in looking for answers to questions that don’t let you prosper or allow for growth?
Where’s the fun in discussing things we already know?
Where’s the fun in asking others questions to things they give the same response to every time?
Where’s the fun in working if work is all we do, care, and ascribe ourselves to?
Where’s the fun in all that… going through the motions, letting the day choose for you rather than you over it, repeating our ways over and over?
Tell me again. Where’s the fun in all that?

08/06/2026I agree that fun is very important. I enjoy it a lot. I do think that all things in moderation has something to say for it, so don't spend all your time on fun.

08/07/2026Hello there, thanks for reading and your thoughts!
Certainly not everything can or will be fun. What I can say is looking for it, accepting you can have it, creating moments with intention we can look back on and say 'That was amazing!' to remind ourselves of our purpose and what we're really living for.
It's easier said than done yes, and things do get in the way, but I think it's important to keep in mind, especially when you don't think anything exciting is happening in your life - I know I've had that experience more than I'd like.
