The Spell That Restored a Family

Andy, wearing only a brown fur coat, stood alone in the gymnasium at Duel University. His mind was clouded with confusion. He had no idea where he was or why he had come. His memories were fragmented, as though someone had torn pages from the story of his life.

Earlier, Arachnir had given him a single command: capture Kimberly and use her as bait to force Jasmine into surrendering.

But everything changed the instant Andy saw Kimberly.

The command to kidnap his daughter dissolved from his mind, replaced by confusion, regret, and the painful realization of everything he had lost. No longer a ruthless Card Hunter, Andy was now a homeless man struggling to reclaim his identity after years of manipulation.

The gym doors opened, and Kimberly returned with Professor Feeny Chandler. Jasmine walked beside them, her expression calm but determined.

The three of them stopped several feet from Andy.

Professor Chandler quietly stepped back, allowing Jasmine to move forward. She reached for Kimberly's hand.

"Close your eyes and repeat after me," Jasmine said gently.

The two girls closed their eyes. Suddenly, the ring in Jasmine's belly button began to glow with a brilliant golden light, growing brighter with every heartbeat.

Jasmine spoke an ancient chant, and Kimberly echoed each line in perfect unison.

"Lux mentis, lumen aeternum,

Break the chains that bind the soul.

Shadows fade and falsehood shatter,

Let the wounded spirit be whole.

By memory's flame and truth untold,

By heart and name reclaimed of old,

Let stolen thoughts return this hour,

Let love surpass all darkened power.

Mind awaken.

Spirit arise.

Truth endure.

Open your eyes."

The instant the final words were spoken, a blinding column of white light engulfed Andy.

Strange glowing symbols emerged from his body one by one, circling him like fireflies before spiraling upward. Some shimmered with crimson light, others with violet and black, each representing a fragment of the dark magic that had controlled his mind.

A swirling portal opened high above the gym floor, crackling with ancient energy. The glowing symbols shot through the air in every direction before being drawn irresistibly toward the portal. One after another, they disappeared into its depths.

With the final symbol gone, the portal collapsed into a single point of light and vanished without a sound.

The silence that followed was overwhelming.

The darkness clouding Andy's eyes faded. He blinked several times as if awakening from a long nightmare. His breathing steadied, and tears welled in his eyes as his memories finally returned—not the false commands of Arachnir, but the life he had lived before the curse.

His gaze settled on Kimberly.

"My... little girl?" he whispered, his voice trembling with disbelief.

For the first time in years, Andy was truly himself again.

Professor Feeny Chandler stood quietly with a warm smile as Andy and Kimberly embraced for the first time in years. Neither father nor daughter wanted to let go, making up for the time that had been stolen from them.

Jasmine stepped beside Professor Chandler and watched the heartfelt reunion.

"I think we need to leave them alone, Ms. Windrider," Professor Chandler said softly.

Jasmine smiled and nodded. "I think you're right."

Without another word, Jasmine and Professor Chandler quietly walked out of the gymnasium, gently closing the doors behind them.

Inside, silence filled the room.

Andy and Kimberly remained in each other's arms, neither speaking. Words could wait. At that moment, all that mattered was that a father had finally found his daughter again, and a daughter had finally gotten her father back.

Outside the gymnasium, the hallway was quiet.

Professor Feeny Chandler and Jasmine Windrider walked side by side, neither speaking for several moments. Behind the closed doors, a father and daughter were finally reunited after years of pain.

At last, Professor Chandler broke the silence.

"Ms. Windrider," he said with a thoughtful smile, "in all my years of teaching, I've seen students perform remarkable feats of intelligence, courage, and determination. But what you accomplished today... that was something altogether different."

Jasmine looked at him. "I only did what I hoped would work."

Professor Chandler shook his head.

"No. You did far more than that. You didn't cast a spell to control someone. You cast one to give someone back the freedom to be himself." He paused. "There is a profound difference between magic that bends a person's will and magic that restores it."

Jasmine glanced back toward the gymnasium doors.

"I was afraid it wouldn't be enough," she admitted. "Arachnir's darkness was so deeply rooted in Andy's mind."

"And yet," Feeny replied, "you understood something many powerful sorcerers forget. The greatest source of magic isn't power." He smiled warmly. "It's compassion."

Jasmine lowered her eyes modestly.

"The chant only opened the way," she said softly. "It was Kimberly's love for her father that gave him the strength to find his way back."

Professor Chandler nodded in agreement.

"Magic may have broken the chains around his mind, but love gave him a reason to step free of them."

The two stood quietly for a moment.

From inside the gymnasium came the faint sound of Andy and Kimberly talking through tears, slowly making up for years that had been stolen from them.

Professor Chandler smiled.

"Today, Ms. Windrider, you didn't simply defeat dark magic."

He looked toward the gym doors.

"You restored a family."

Jasmine smiled as tears gathered in her eyes.

"I think," she said quietly, "that's the greatest spell I'll ever cast."

Together, they walked down the hallway, leaving Andy and Kimberly to begin the long journey of healing—this time, together.

Meanwhile, deep beneath Duel University, hidden within an abandoned sewer tunnel, Arachnir stood before a glowing viewscreen. The image of Andy embracing Kimberly flickered across its surface.

His plan had failed.

For the second time, Jasmine Windrider had slipped through his grasp.

Unbeknownst to Andy, Kimberly, Jasmine, Professor Feeny Chandler, or the other duelists, the ancient dark magic saturating the abandoned sewer continued to grow stronger. The corrupted energy seeped through the crumbling stone walls like a living shadow, feeding on hatred, fear, and despair.

Its influence had begun twisting even Arachnir's own mind.

No longer driven solely by strategy, his thoughts had become consumed by obsession. Jasmine was no longer merely an obstacle to defeat—she had become the focus of his every waking thought. He imagined capturing her and stripping away the source of the magic that had repeatedly thwarted him: the enchanted ring inside her belly button.

His desire for victory had transformed into a cruel fixation, and the darkness surrounding him only strengthened those impulses.

Arachnir's eyes burned with malice as he clenched his fists.

"You have humiliated me for the last time, Jasmine Windrider," he hissed into the darkness. "Soon, neither your magic nor your courage will be enough to save you."

The shadows around him stirred as though answering his vow, and deep beneath Duel University, the ancient evil continued to awaken.
