The Awakening

“Alpha! Alpha!” A sable grey wolf yelled through the dens. Perking his head through every part of the pack.

“Rueken, calm down.” A deep voice curdled.

Rueken’s head spun around, panting heavily, he bowed before a large black wolf. The Alpha. “Rise. Now, what is the matter?” Standing up, trying to regain his dizzy balance and ragged breath, he sighed.

“Deep in the forest, some of the Scout wolves found a deserted temple and--“ He was cut off by the sound of a sweet, soft voice.

“The hunting party is ready, Alpha.” He nodded, “This will have to wait for later, go and Scout with Riku.” Rueken whined.

“But sir-“ He growled, “Rueken, go.” He bowed in respect once again and walked away, ears flattened, “Cheer up mate!” Riku chirped, nudging his side.

“Come on, we got scouting to do.” Rueken rolled his eyes, running off into the woods, fully alert of where they were going. Riku ran ahead, of course, scouting the territorial border.

“Hey Riku, remember that temple we found earlier?”

Both stopped, looking at each other, “Yeah, what about it?” A sigh escaped his lips, “Want to go check it out?”

Riku’s eyes went wide. “Are you crazy?!” Her whisper yelled.

“No.” Rueken remarked with a smart ass wolfish grin.

“Look, all I know is that, that temple is bad news, if you so happen to EVER go inside that abandoned place, I will personally teach you a-“ Riku was cut off by the sound of a blood curdling roar.

Rueken snapped his head in various directions, “What was that?” He asked, whispering in fear, “I don’t know.”

The roar echoed again, but this time, it seemed closer, much closer. Rueken and Riku stepped backwards, but what happened next left them trembling in fear. Both wolves ran into something hard and large, turning around, they came face to face with two glowing red orbs. Teeth like a dragon’s. It’s height 7ft, claws that were half the size of a normal wolf’s leg. It held a murderous glare between them both.

“Run!” Riku yelled, both did exactly so.

The sound of heavy paw prints rumbled behind them, but they were stopped by a cliff with a straight drop to death. They turned around to face the demon. “What are we going to do?!” Rueken screamed, stepping backwards to the point where his paws were almost hanging off the edge.

The demon inched closer, snarling loudly. A demonic howl rumbled the earth beneath them, cracking the ground. Riku looked down and saw the cliff breaking away from the wooded forest. Rueken took one look at his friend and then everything went black. Death.
