Case 3 - Brandon's Arrest
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesInspector Rebella Howard had just arrived at the precinct. Tina Cassidy was the day shift dispatcher. Tina motioned Rebella to come in to dispatch. “Could you man dispatch for a few minutes. I need to go to the little girl’s room,” said Tina. Tina got out of the chair and Rebella sat down at the radio.
Tina came back, Rebella got up and she sat down. Rebella was fixing to leave when Captain Graves came in. “Tina, we have one officer on vacation and one officer sick today. I need you to start going down the call list and get someone to cover,” said Captain Graves. “I am on it Captain,” said Tina. “I could cover the shift. I worked on street patrol for two years before I was promoted to an inspector and assigned to the Special Investigation Task Force,” Said Rebella. “Ok, Tina here is the patrol division assignments for today: 5-Adam 37 will work the Western District; 5-Adam 42, Eastern District; 5-George 32, North District, and 5-Adam 47, Southern District,” said Captain Graves. “I’ll get it typed up and give it to the Patrol Division Commander.”
Rebella went out to her car, got a backpack and put it in the passenger seat of the patrol car. While on patrol, Rebella drove past a warehouse on Godfrey Street. She noticed that there were two people standing in front of a door. They look like they are guarding the place, thought Rebella. “I am going to go check this out,” said Rebella, to herself. She parked the police car where it was not visible and put on the backpack she had placed in the passenger seat. She went to the side of the warehouse and made her way to the roof of the building. When she got on the roof, she opened her backpack and took out a listening device.
Alister Crane and Brandon Bobel were inside the warehouse and Rebella picked up the conversation. “Here is the plan. I have sent four to abduct Tina Cassidy and we are going to lead the police into a trap. We are going to take them all out at one time,” said Alister.
She had to get back to the precinct and tell J.P. what was going on, she decided as she put the listening device back into the backpack. As Rebella started to get down from the roof of the warehouse, she made a loud noise that Alister and Brandon heard. Alister went to a phone on the wall and called one of the guards guarding the main entrance to the warehouse.
The guard that Alister called told the guard standing next to him that Alister had asked him to check the perimeter of the warehouse. The guard started looking around the building Rebella got up next to the wall. The guard did not notice her. She grabbed him and put her hand over his mouth. She reached in her backpack and put a handkerchief in his mouth, then pulled out some rope and tied his hands behind his back. She made him sit on the ground. The other guard started worrying about the other guard so he left his post to look for him. Rebella saw him coming and waited. She grabbed him, stuck a handkerchief in his mouth and tied him up like she did the other one.
Rabella escorted the two guards to the police car. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to be speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you,” said Rebella. She picked up the microphone. “Dispatch, this is 5-George 32, I am 10-76 to your location from Godfrey Street, with 2 subjects in custody.”
Tina wrote the information down on the log. She pressed the talk button on the console. “Received 5-George 32, I show you 10-76 from Godfrey to the 169th Precinct, with 2 subjects in custody, dispatch receive time 10:18 hours,” said Tina.
Rebella processed the suspects and went into the detective’s office. “Tina is in trouble,” said Rabella to Inspector J. P. Bullet. “What kind of trouble is she in,” asked J.P. “I overheard Alister and Brandon talking. Alister said he was sending 4 henchmen to kidnap Tina and then lead us into a trap,” said Rebella.
Inspector Harvey Lucas and Antonio Perez were also in the room. “Harvey, you and Rebella take a swat team to the warehouse on Godfrey. Antonio, I want you to cover for Rebella. I am going to take Tina to a safe location.”
Harvey, Rebella and the swat team went to the warehouse on Godfrey. “This looks like the same set-up as the other warehouse we raided a few weeks ago,” said Harvey. Harvey did another scene size-up. “We are going to split up the swat team. Rabella will lead one team through the back and I will lead the other team through the front,” said Harvey. They entered the warehouse at the same time. Brandon headed for the back door and ran into Rebella and her team. “Hold it right there!” shouted Rebella, aiming her revolver at him. “You surprise me. I would have figured when you got divorced, you would be ready to come back and work for me,” said Brandon. “Shut up! If it was not a waste of good lead, I would pull the trigger right now!” she said angrily. Harvey came up behind Brandon. “Don’t do it! He is not worth it,” said Harvey. Rebella started trembling. “Put your hands behind your back,” instructed Rebella. Harvey handcuffed Brandon. What Brandon said brought back emotional wounds that upset Rebella. She sat her revolver on the floor and she got on her knees and started crying. Harvey reached and took Rebella’s hand and helped her up. She hugged Harvey still crying.
The next morning, Rebella was sitting on the bench inside the precinct looking at her inspector badge. Harvey stopped and sat down beside her. “Harvey, do you think, I am a good cop?” asked Rebella. “You are darn fine cop. You took down Brandon not once but twice,” said Harvey. “Thanks, Harvey, but after yesterday you probably won’t be working with me for a while,” said Rebella with sigh. “What are you talking about?” asked Harvey. “You had to put in your report that I nearly shot the suspect and had emotional breakdown,” said Rebella. Harvey had the report in his hand. He opened the file. “Actually the report says that Inspector Rebella Howard entered the back door. Upon entrance into the building she located the subject Brandon Bobel where she detained the suspect until backup arrived,” said Harvey. “What! Let me see that!” said Rebella. Harvey handed her the case file and she read it. “I don’t believe this,” said Rebella.
Harvey went into the detective’s office and handed J.P. the report on the arrest of Brandon Bobel. “I just wished we could have got Alister too,” said Harvey. “Alister is a very sly fox, but one day he is going to make a mistake and we will be waiting, said J.P.
