Case 16 - The Robotic Dog
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesTina Cassidy went to CV’s Restaurant for supper. She was eating when Officer Mallet came in. He saw her and waved, then he found a table and started looking at the menu. Tina finished and on her way out she stopped and talked to officer Mallet. “1-Adam 147” came over the radio. Officer Mallet took out his radio. “Dispatch this is 1-Adam 147, go ahead” said Officer Mallet. “1-Adam 147 be enroute to Upstate Jewelers in reference to a robbery. Reportee advises the suspect is a robotic dog,” said the dispatcher. “Dispatch, did you advise the suspect was a robotic dog?” asked officer Mallet. “10-4 1-Adam 147, call advises a robotic dog,” said the dispatcher. Officer Mallet had a strange look. “This has to be a prank call,” said Officer Mallet. “I will back you up,” said Tina. “Dispatch this is 1-Adam 147 I will be enroute to the call with 5-George 35,”said Officer Mallet.
Officer Mallet and Tina arrived at the Upstate Jewelers. The glass on the front was busted. Officer Mallet and Tina drew their service revolvers. Tina got on the left side and Officer Mallet got on the right. “You ready?” asked Officer Mallet. Tina shook her head yes. They made entry into the jewelry store. All the cases were damaged, the cash register was lying on the floor and all the jewelry was gone. Tina and Officer Mallet put their service revolvers in the holsters. They located the owner in the back of the store who was trembling with fear. “What happened?” asked officer Mallet. “This robotic dog busted the glass out of the front door, broke into all the cases, ate the jewelry and the money in the cash register and left,” said the owner. Officer Mallet and Tina had a hard time believing the story. The owner saw from the looks on their faces that they did not believe him. The owner pulled the surveillance tape and showed them. “I don’t believe it,” said Officer Mallet, watching the tape in disbelief.
The next morning at the 169th precinct, J.P. Bullet came into the office. He had an aggravated look on his face. “Tina! I need to speak with you,” said J.P. Harvey Lucas, Rebella Lucas, and Susie Young were also in the room. “They must have had a fight,” said Susie. “Yes, sir,” said Tina trembling. “Captain Graves just assigned us the Upstate Jewelry robbery case. In the report you said the suspect was a robotic dog,” said J.P. “Yes sir,” said Tina. “How do you know that the suspect was a robotic dog? Your report does not make sense!” shouted J.P. at Tina. “Surveillance video. If you give me just a minute to get the tape I will show you,” said Tina. She went to the evidence room and got the tape and showed it to J.P. and the others. “If I had not seen it myself, I would have not believed you,” said J.P. “The only person I can think of that could build something like that is Dr. Wiseman. He works at Upstate Robotics they experiment with building robots,” said Harvey. The telephone rang. J.P. answered the phone. He wrote down the information. “They just had break in at Glamorous Jewels the suspect was a robotic dog,” said J.P. “Harvey, you and Susie take that call. Tina me and you will go to Upstate Robotics. Rebella, you will be on standby in case the robotic dog strikes before Harvey and Susie can clear the Glamorous Jewels call,” said J.P.
“Tina, I am sorry I yelled at you,” said J.P. on the way to Upstate Robotics. “That’s okay, I should have worded my report a little bit different,” said Tina. “You are one of the finest officers on the force and an asset to the Special Investigation Division. When I did not understand the report, I should have asked you to clarify it instead of going of the deep end,” said J.P. “It’s okay. Being chewed out comes with the job,” said Tina. “No, it’s not okay. I want to make it up to you. Let me buy you dinner tonight,” said J.P.
J.P. and Tina arrived at Upstate Robotics. They met with Roger Oglethorpe. “I am Inspector Bullet and this is Detective Cassidy. We need to ask you some questions about Dr. Wiseman,” said J.P. “Dr. Wiseman is no longer employed here. We fired him,” said Roger. “Why was he fired?” asked J.P. “Dr. Wiseman was fired because he was stealing components to build robots,” said Roger. He gave him a copy of Dr. Wiseman’s employment file.
J.P. and Tina went back to the 169th precinct. Harvey and Susie were out on another robbery. J.P. started thumbing through the employment file that Roger had given him. “Dr. Wiseman’s address when he worked for Upstate Robotics was 1121 Cherry Street. Rebella, I want you and Officer Mallet to go there and see if you can locate the good doctor. Tina, me and you will try to locate the robotic dog,” said J.P.
J.P. and Tina went up street and down the other trying to locate the robotic dog. They noticed a black van parked in the alley on East 88th Street. J.P.stopped and observed what was going on. Dr. Wiseman got out of the van and opened the door and let the robotic dog out. Then he got back in the van and sat there. He was waiting for the robotic dog to return with loot. “I will get Wiseman, you get the dog,” said J.P. Tina got out of the car and started running after the robotic dog. J.P. drew his service revolver. He approached the van. He tapped on the glass. Dr. Wiseman rolled the window down. J.P. showed him his badge. “We are the police and you are under arrest,” said J.P.
Tina was running as hard as she could trying to catch up to the robotic dog. “Stop!” shouted Tina. To her surprise the robotic dog stopped running and sat down on the ground wagging its tail. “Good boy,” said Tina. She started giving the robotic dog commands and it did what she told it to do. “Follow me,” said Tina. The robotic dog followed her back to J.P.’s car.
J.P. and Tina went back to the 169th Precinct. Rebella, Harvey, and Susie were back. “We could not locate Dr. Wiseman,” said Rebella. “We caught Dr. Wiseman and the robotic dog,” said JP. “I guess now the robotic dog will have to be deactivated,” said Tina with a sad look on her face, she was almost ready to start crying. Harvey, Susie, and Rebella had a strange look on their face as Tina walked off.
Monday morning, Captain Graves came into the detective’s Office. Tina, Harvey, Rebella, and Susie were in the office. “J.P. is not here,” said Harvey. “I know, he is out on a call. Detective Tina Cassidy and Susie Young please stand up at attention,” said Captain Graves. They stood up. Captain Graves reached in his pocket and pulled out two inspector badges. Detective Cassidy and Detective Young you are being promoted to inspector,” said Captain Graves. He shook their hand and handed them their new badges, while Harvey and Rebella clapped. “We are also going to have a new member on the Special Investigation Team. Inspector Cassidy you will get to name him. Everybody was looking at each other in confusion. Captain Graves opened the door and motioned for J.P. to come into the detective’s office. J.P. came in with the robotic dog on a leash. Inspector Cassidy, you will get to name him and will be his handler,” said Captain Graves walking out the room. J.P. reached down and took the leash off of the robotic dog. Tina bent down. “Come here boy,” said Tina. The robotic dog went running up to Tina and she petted as if it was a real dog. “I am going to name you Dowzer,” said Tina. Tina rose back up. “I don’t understand,” said Tina. “I took him back to the Upstate Robotics and had him reprogrammed, now instead of a thief he is a police dog,” said J.P. “So, I am going to be the one responsible for taking care of him?” asked Tina putting a smile on her face. “He’s yours,” said J.P. Tina went up and hugged him. “Thank you,” said Tina.
The jewelry that was stolen was recovered and given back to its rightful owner. Dr. Wiseman was found guilty on 6 counts of theft and was sentenced to 90 years in prison.
