Case 26 - The Treasure
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesIt was Friday afternoon, Inspector J.P. Bullet and Tina Cassidy had just gone off duty. J.P. walked Tina and her robotic police dog Dowzer to her car. Tina put Dowzer in the back seat and she got in the driver seat and rolled the window down. “I am planning on going to the beach tomorrow with Dowzer. Do you want to come?” asked Tina. Dowzer started whimpering. “You know I don’t like when you do that,” said J.P. to Dowzer. “I’ll pick you and Dowzer up at 10 tomorrow morning,” said J.P. “All Right!” said Tina excitedly. Dowzer started making a barking sound and wagging his tail. Tina drove off. “I should have obeyed my first impulse and had that robotic dog disassembled,” said J.P. to himself as he walked to his car.
The next morning J.P. arrived early to pick up Tina and Dowzer. J.P. sat down on the couch. Dowzer jumped up on the couch and laid down beside him. Tina came out in a white unbuttoned shirt, pink bikini top, and blue jean shorts. J.P. turned red faced and Dowzer started howling. “What’s wrong with him?” asked Tina. “He has good taste,” joked J.P. “You two boys need to settle down,” joked Tina putting on her sun glasses.
J.P. and Tina sat on a beach towel and talked while Dowzer dug holes in the sand, Dowzer dug up a map buried in the sand and was fixing to take it to J.P. when four pirates approached them. “Give me my map!” shouted Captain Don Karnosh, snatching it out of Dowzer’s mouth. Dowzer started growling. “Don’t look now but I am afraid there is trouble,” whispered Tina. They stood up and went to where Dowzer was, who was still growling at the pirates. “Is there a problem?” asked J.P. “Nothing other than this stupid machine is trying to steal my map,” said Don Karnosh. “Dowzer, stand down,” said J.P. who was wanting to try to avoid a confrontation with the pirates. Don Karnosh put the map in his pocket. He started to leave but turned around. “It would not be fun to just walk away easily,” said Don Karnosh and approached J.P., Tina, and Dowzer. “Bubba, I don’t know who you are but you got your map, so I would suggest that you go about your business,” said J.P. “First of all I am the great Captain Don Karnosh and secondly nobody tells the great Captain Don Karnosh what to do,” said Don. “I have never heard of you,” said Tina. “What? you have never heard of the Great Captain Don Karnosh, the greatest sea pirate in the world!? Take them!" Shouted Don Karnosh. “Dowzer get back-up,” said J.P. Dowzer took off running. The pirates pulled out their revolvers. being out numbered J.P. and Tina had no choice but to surrender.
Dowzer went straight to the 169th precinct and sat down in front of the door and started barking hoping to get someone’s attention. LaSondra Coles was the dispatcher on duty and she noticed Dowzer in front of the door on the monitor. She picked up the phone and called Tina’s house. When Tina did not answer she called Susie Young.
Susie was sitting at home watching tv and eating popcorn when LaSondra called. “Susie, this is LaSondra Cole at the 169th Precinct, Dowzer is outside the precinct at the front door and I can’t get in touch with Tina,” said LaSondra. Susie thought maybe dowzer was malfunctioning, but then she remembered that if Dowzer malfunctioned it was programmed to shut down. “LaSondra call Harvey and Rebella, I am on my way,” said Susie.
Susie, Rebella, and Harvey arrived at the precinct and when Dowzer saw them he went running up to them barking. “What’s the matter boy?” said Rebella. Dowzer kept barking. “Is Tina in trouble?” asked Rebella. Dowzer barked one time and sat down and started wagging his tail. “Dowzer is programed to answer questions. if the answer is yes he will bark once and sit down; if the answer is no, he will keep barking,” said Rebella. “So Tina is in trouble,” said Harvey. “Dowzer, show us where Tina is,” said Rebella. Dowzer started walking off at a slow pace and then stopped. “He must want us to follow him in our car,” said Harvey. They went and got in Harvey’s car and went to the back parking lot. Dowzer took off running and they followed him in their car.
J.P. and Tina were put in a holding cell on a ship that was sitting just off the harbor. Tina was sitting on the floor crying. “What’s wrong?” asked J.P. who was trying to think of a way to escape. “I just want to have a normal weekend,” cried Tina. “I would just like to have one weekend that I could enjoy without something stupid happening,” continuing Tina. J.P. sat down beside her and put his arm around her. “I have a plan, but I am going to need you to focus. Once this is all over we will go on a date outside of New York City,” said J.P. Tina stopped crying. “Really?” said Tina. “Yes, and if you want to you can bring Dowzer along,” said J.P. “No, if we went on a date outside of New York City, I would just want it to be the two of us,” said Tina leaning over and kissing J.P.
Dowzer went running to where he left J.P. and Tina. Susie, Harvey, and Rebella got out of the car and started looking for them. “Look at that,” said Rebella pointing to the ship that J.P. and Tina were being held captive on. “I don’t like the looks of this,” said Harvey. Susie took out her cell phone and called the precinct. “I need all available units and Chopper One,” said Susie.
The pirates did not notice that J.P. had an ankle holster and a revolver on him. “You ready?” said J.P. “Just a second” said Tina buttoning up her shirt. “Ready!” said Tina. J.P. kept the revolver out of site. He got the pirate’s attention. He walked over to the cell and J.P. hit him over the head with the revolver. He fell to the ground and Tina reached down and took his keys and unlocked the cell. She took the pirate’s revolver so she would have one. They dragged the pirate into the cell and locked the door.
Don Karnosh was in the map room reading the map that Dowzer had dug up. He heard a helicopter flying overhead. “We are the police and you are under arrest. Return to port immediately” said Rebella from the helicopter on the P.A. system. Don Karnosh got on the phone and ordered the helmsman to take the ship out to sea.
The pilot in Chopper One was circling the ship. “Looks like they are not going to comply,” said the pilot. “We will see about that,” said Rebella, taking her seat belt off and putting on a back pack. She opened the door to the helicopter and jumped onto the ship. She reached in her backpack and took out her service revolver.
J.P. and Tina made it to the bridge. J.P’s plan was to get control of the ship and get it back to the harbor. “You ready?” asked J.P. Tina shook her head yes. They approached the helmsman. “We are the police and you are under arrest,” said J.P. The helmsman reached in his pocket and pulled out a revolver and started firing. They jumped to the floor to keep from getting hit.
“We are under attack!” shouted Don Karnosh and sent some pirates to the bridge.
Tina moved to the opposite end of the bridge and opened fire to distract the pirate so J.P. could lock the door to isolate the bridge.
Rebella saw what was going on and she busted out a window and ducked. The suspect started firing at her. This gave J.P. the opportunity to tackle the pirate. When the pirate was pinned down on the floor Rebella came through the broken window. She reached in her backpack and pulled out a piece of rope and tied the pirate’s hands behind his back. J.P. turned the ship back towards the harbor. “How many are there?” asked Rebella. “At least four,” said J.P.
Then J.P. and the others heard a banging noise. “They are trying to get in,” said Tina. “If they want in let's just let them in,” said J.P. Tina and Rebella went out the busted window and hid. J.P. unlocked the door and went out the window.
The pirates stormed the room and started looking for J.P. "I think that’s all of them except Don Karnosh,” said J.P. One of the pirates was standing in front of the window. Rebella raised up and put her hand over his mouth and pulled him through the broken window, where she tied his hands behind his back. One of the pirates noticed that their comrade was missing. They went towards the window. J.P. and Tina stood up, they both had a revolver and aimed it at the pirates. “Put your hands in the air,” said Tina. The pirates complied and then were instructed to come out through the broken window. When they were off the bridge and on the deck, Rebella ordered them to sit down and she tied their hands behind their back with rope.
Without anybody to steer the ship it ran aground. Harvey, Susie, and numerous officers boarded the ship and took Don Karnosh into custody.
Rebella and Harvey were looking at the map that Dowzer had dug up. “It looks like a treasure map,” said Harvey. “I am sure Tina is ready to go start looking for buried treasure,” said Rebella. “No, I already found my treasure,” said Tina. Harvey and Rebella looked at each other with a confused look on their face. Tina went up and put her arms around J.P. and started kissing him. Dowzer laid down and covered his eyes. “This is my treasure,” said Tina with a smile on her face.
Don Karnosh was found guilty on two counts of kidnapping and theft. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison. The other pirates pleaded guilty to accessory and were sentenced to 10 years in prison. The map that Dowzer dug up was donated to a local museum.
