Case 27 - Firecrakcer
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesKathleen Diamond, Inspector Rebella Luca’s sister was doing a school report on her laptop. She had developed a writer's blog and had a hard time with her report. She decided to take a break from it and got on House Guest, a social media website. She started reading a post by Firecracker. “What an odd post,” she thought. The post read that the mayor had twenty four hours to turn the city over to him, or everyone would see the most spectacular firework show they have ever seen and when it was over there would be no building left standing in New York City. “It’s probably just someone running their mouth, but I am going to let Rebella look at it” thought Kathleen as she printed the posting.
Kathleen went to the 169th Precinct. She stopped at the dispatch office. Lannie Rubles was the dispatcher on duty. “Excuse me, is my sister Rebella at the precinct? I really need to talk to her,” said Kathleen. “Just a minute and I will check,” said Lannie.
Lannie picked up the phone and called the detective’s office. Inspector Susie Young answered the phone. “Is Inspector Rebella Lucas in?” asked Lannie. “She is,” said Susie. “There is someone here to see her,” said Lannie. “I will tell her,” said Susie.
“Rebella, there is someone here to see you,” said Susie. Rebella got up and went down the hall. Kathleen was standing in the hall by the dispatch office waiting to see her sister.
“Kathleen, what did you do this time?” asked Rebella. “I was working on a report and I was having trouble writing the report, so I took a break and went on House Guest. I found this weird posting,” said Kathleen handing Rebella a printed copy of the post. “Mr. Mayor, you have twenty-four hours to turn the city over to me or everyone will see the most spectacular firework show they have ever seen and when it was over there would be no building left standing in New York City. I think this is someone just being stupid, but I am going to let Inspector Bullet read it,” said Rebella.
Rebella went back to the detective’s office. “J.P., I know this is probably someone acting stupid, but I think you should read it,” said Rebella handing J.P. the printed out post that Kathleen had given her. J.P. read the information. “This maybe someone’s idea of a prank but they have just committed a crime,” said J.P.
The telephone rang. It was Captain Graves. He needed to see Inspector Bullet in his office immediately.
J.P. went to Captain Graves’ office. “Sit down we have a major problem on our hands,” said Captain Graves. “What is it?” asked J.P. “Some nut got on House Guest and gave the mayor twenty four hours to turn the city over to him or there was going to be a firework show and there would not be any buildings left standing. People are now calling the mayor and asking him what they need to do,” said Captain Graves. “Inspector Lucas’ sister just brought us a copy of the post and we were fixing to get started working on finding out who Firecracker is,” said J.P. J.P. went back into the detective’s office. “Rebella, bring Kathleen back to the precinct. I may need her help to catch firecracker,” said J.P.
Rebella got up and left the precinct. She went to where Kathleen was staying. Rebella knocked on the door. “Kathleen,” said Rebella. “Come in,” said Kathleen. “J.P. needs you to come back to the precinct” said Rebella. “Am I in trouble with the law again?” asked Kathleen. “No, J.P. would like for you to try and help us catch someone,” said Rebella.
Rebella and Kathleen went back to the 169th Precinct. They went into the detective’s office. “Kathleen, I would like for you to correspond with firecracker and see if you can find out what he is planning,” said J.P. taking her over to a computer.
Kathleen sat down and posted on Firecrackers wall. “If the mayor does not turn the city over where will be the best place to see it. They waited and Firecracker responded “Stargaze at Hudson”. “Stargaze at Hudson, what does that mean?” asked Inspector Susie Young. Kathleen was fixing to ask the question on House Guest. “Wait, the answer is right in front of us,” said J.P. Susie was confused. “I see it! You stargaze at night and the Hudson is a river. Tonight on the Hudson River,” said Rebella.
J.P. got his jacket and took his car keys from his pocket. “Rebella will do an air search around the Hudson in Chopper One. I and Tina will drive the side streets and see if we can find Firecracker. The rest, I need you to be on standby in case we don’t find him in time.”
Firecracker was along the Hudson River preparing to carry out his evil plans for the night. He heard a helicopter in the distance. He did not think anything about it and continued getting ready. Rebella spotted him and radioed J.P. “I have him on sight,” said Rebella. Firecracker saw the helicopter approaching and took off running. “He’s running towards the highway” said Rebella to J.P. over the radio.
J.P. was driving down Shore Boulevard and saw Firecracker running towards him. Firecracker saw J.P. and was fixing to turn around and start running the other direction when the helicopter started to land, blocking him from making that move. Rebella got on the P.A. System, “We are the police and you are under arrest”. Firecracker put his hands up and was taken into custody without incident.
Kenneth Loafman a.k.a Firecracker was convicted in the federal court and sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole. For her assistance in the case, Kathleen Diamond got to be an honorary detective for the day and got to ride with the Special Investigation Team. She is currently thinking of going to the academy when she completes high school.
