Case 28 - The Proposal
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta, Texas, United StatesInspector Susie Young came into the detective’s office with a worried look on her face. “What’s wrong?” asked Inspector Rebella Lucas. “I am going to be in command of the Special Investigation Division Next week. J.P. and Tina are both going to be off,” said Susie. “That’s strange,” said Rebella, with devious thoughts going through her mind. “It’s probably because they have too much time built-up. Neither one of them has taken a vacation since the Special Investigation Division started, plus, they have also worked on weekends,” said Detective Oscar Mallet. “You are probably right,” said Rebella. Inspector J.P. Bullet, Tina Cassidy, and her robotic dog Dowzer came into the detective’s office. “Rebella, I know this is a short notice, but, could you and Harvey watch Dowzer while I am on vacation?” asked Tina. “Sure,” said Rebella.
J.P. and Tina arrived at the hotel in Atlantic City. “This is going to be awesome! A whole week of rest and relaxation. Plus, I can work on my tan,” said Tina. “Quiet,” teased J.P. “What?” asked Tina. “Every time we try to take a break from work, it seems to follow us,” said J.P. “That’s so true. I promise I’ll keep my mouth closed about taking a vacation,” said Tina.
Inspector Rebella Lucas came into the detective’s office with a disgusted look on her face. She was carrying a call sheet. “Susie, who do you want to take this call? All the officers are tied up,” said Rebella handing Susie the call sheet. “Harvey you and Mallet will take this call,” said Susie. She handed Harvey the call sheet. “Man!” said Harvey getting up and putting his jacket on. Harvey and Oscar Mallet left the detective’s office. “What was so bad about the call?” asked Detective Conner McMasters. “Pepe Flascal called in and reported some items missing. He thinks that his boyfriend took them,” said Susie.
Harvey and Oscar went to PePe’s house. Oscar knocked on the door. “I am going to advise dispatch that we are on the scene,” said Harvey dashing quickly for the car. “Come-in and make yourself comfortable,” said PePe kissing Oscar Mallet on the cheek. “I hate you Harvey,” said Oscar Mallet. PePe described the items that were missing and who he thought could have taken them. Oscar wrote down the information and told PePe they would talk to the boyfriend. Harvey was in the car waiting for Oscar. “Drive!” shouted Oscar getting into Harvey’s car. Harvey started up the car and put it into drive. “Don’t ever do that again!” said Oscar in a hateful tone.
Harvey and Oscar went over to Steve Fares house. Oscar knocked on the door. “You better not take off me Harvey,” said Oscar, very annoyed at having to deal with PePe. Steve came to the door. “I am detective Mallet and this is Inspector Lucas, we need to ask you a few questions,” said Oscar. “Great that freak called the cops,” said Steve slamming the door in their faces. “He is probably going to run,” said Oscar taking out his service weapon. “Looks that way. I’ll go around back,” said Harvey, drawing his service revolver. Harvey went around the, back. The back door flung open as Steve was trying to escape. “Steve, my main man, what is the hurry?’ asked Harvey. Steve put his hands up. “Put your hands behind your back,” instructed Harvey. Steve did as instructed and Harvey handcuffed him.
Steve was processed and taken to Interrogation Room One. “What did you do with PePe’s property?” asked Harvey. “I don’t have that freak’s property; he is trying to frame me. The reason I ran was because there are two people that were innocent and were falsely accused of things they did not do. They would not have a relationship with him and he filed a police report and put the missing items on their property,” continued Steve. “How do you know this?” asked Harvey. “One is my brother Jimmy and the other one is J.J. O’Rilley,” said Steve. “How do you know about J.J. O’Riley?” asked Oscar. “He is currently in jail with my brother and they were in the same cell for a while,” said Steve. Harvey went over to the phone on the wall and called the detective’s office. “Susie, I need you to send some units over to Steve Fares’ residence and set-up surveillance. PePe may be on his way over there with the stolen property to frame Steve,” said Harvey.
Susie hung up the phone. “Conner and Rebella, I need you to go set up surveillance at 699 Cherrywood Circle. PePe may be on his way there with what he reported missing to frame Steve,” said Susie.
Conner and Rebella went to Steve’s house and set up surveillance. It was not long before Pepe showed up with a sack. “Look who just showed up,” said Rebella. Conner and Rebella got out of the car and approached PePe. “Hiya PePe, What’s in the sack?” asked Rebella. “It is what Steve took from me that you could not find and I was on my way to the precinct with it, so that Steve could be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law” said PePe. “Oh, so he hid what he took in the back seat of your car,” said Conner. “No! It was in his house,” PePe lied. “You want to hear something really - really funny,” said Rebella. “I am in no mood for jokes, I am ready for the two of you to leave so I can go down to the precinct,” said Pepe. “Let me tell you this funny story and then we will personally escort you to the precinct,” said Rebella. “Fine, go ahead,” said PePe. “We have you on video taking the sack out of the car and going towards Steve’s house,” said Rebella. “You are lying,” said Pepe. “Are you sure?” asked Rebella pointing towards the car. Conner took out his handcuffs and arrested PePe.
Tina had just turned on the TV, when J.P. came in with popcorn. “I have seen parts of this movie; it is fixing to get really scary. Why don’t you come and sit beside me, so that it does not scare you?” asked J.P. Tina sat down in bed beside him. “It’s fixing to get real scary here in a moment.” Tina got next to him and he put his arm around her and held her tight.
Tina fell asleep before the movie was off and when it was over, J.P. snuggled her. Tina woke up the next morning with J.P.’s arm around her. She had a big smile on her face. “Good morning sunshine,” said J.P. kissing her on the cheek. J.P. went up and got her a cup of coffee. “Man! This is a first,” said Tina. J.P. went over and picked up a brochure by the TV. He handed it to Tina. She opened it, gasped and closed it. “Oh my gosh!” exclaimed Tina as she opened the brochure back up. There was an engagement ring taped to the page. She was still in shock as she removed the tape. J.P. sat down beside her. “Tina Cassidy, will you marry me?” said J.P. Tears started coming to Tina’s eyes. “Yes,” she answered.
Tina was manning dispatch while Ola took a break. Rebella came into the 169th Precinct with Dowzer on a leash. She went into the dispatch office with Dowzer. “How was your vacation?” asked Rebella. “Man! It was awesome,” said Tina. “Did you bring me some souvenirs?” teased Rebella. “No, but I want to show you something,” said Tina holding her hand out for Rebella to see her engagement ring. “He proposed?” asked Rebella. Tina nodded her head. “And I accepted,” she said.
PePe was found guilty on two charges of lying to the police and was sentenced to twenty years in jail. Jimmy Fares and J.J. O’Riley were cleared of all charges and were released from jail.
