I LOVED THEM THEY KILLED ME

By Sarfraz
Born 1950, M, from Islamabad, Pakistan

Hani was a fine soul from all angles of good life. He lost his father and a brother that made him pay extra attention to his brothers, sisters and mother. He had a loving and caring wife who was unable to give him their own child. They adopted a brother-in-law's son but failed to groom him in to a good human.

Hani worked extremely hard in his profession and rose to the heights. Earned an honorable retirement and was re-employed with good perks and privileges to head a multi-billion establishment. He spent major part of his earnings on settling his brothers and sisters. His mother lived with him.

Having served the re-employed term of his retirement, his only occupation was his family. His wife used to coax him to transfer his property and wealth in the name of their adopted son who had grown in to a man by now. This was always resented and resisted by his mother. She would argue in favor of Hani's brothers and sisters instead.

The tension in the house made him lose sleep. Medication too could help him little. He would not share the situation with any of his friends, brothers or sisters; he in fact had only professional acquaintances and no real friends.

Tug of war between his mother and his wife was accelerating with every passing day. He used to wonder about his place and worth in the family viz a viz the property and wealth that he had earned in his entire life. This pondering always suggested to him that it was wealth and property that was dearer to his wife and mother. The mounting tension was becoming unbearable for the otherwise fine and gentle soul. He had no other occupation in his life to keep him busy in retired life.

Having failed to make his wife and mother reconcile he decided to settle the issue once and for all. One morning he went to his mother and after some chat moved in to his study. Servants looked for him at breakfast and found him dead in his study chair. He had shot himself with his pistol fitted with a silencer leaving all the wealth and property for legal heirs.
