I Fell In Love With Her Then Lost Her
Born 1996, F, from Victoria, Australia
I had tears in my eyes as i watched her die there in front of me. Was this what was going to happen to me every time i loved someone? when I let my guard down the person i loved the most would be taken from me in the blink of an eye.
This is my story of how I fell in love with her and lost her all in one go.
I was on my way to class when I accidentally walked into Rose and made her knock all her books on to the hard tiled floor.
“Sorry for walking into you like that, I did not see you there,” I told Rose while I helped her pick up her lilac books.
“That is ok Mike. so what you doing after class?” she said to me as I held her hand and walked her to her next class.
“Well I thought we might go to the movies after school,” I told her as we walked past the green and blue lockers.
“Sure thing, see you at eight tonight,” she said as she kissed me on the cheek.
“Hey Mike, you coming or not?” said my best friend Max to me from the front of my physics classroom.
“Of course I’m coming you nit wit,” I yelled over my shoulder as I watched Rose with the lilac ribbon walk in to her next class with her friends.
That was when it all happened... the big explosion from the Humanities class. Max and I both ran to find that everyone in the classroom was on the floor covered in dust and clay from the ceiling. but when we went in to help everyone get out I saw a fire starting and there was one more person that I could not find. I was looking everywhere for Rose. and then I saw it, the mangled body of a girl with blonde hair lying on the floor under a massive block of plaster. With a closer inspection of the body I found out that it was one of Rose’s friends. I raced to her but when I got to her I could not get her all by myself.
“Max come here and help me get this bit of plaster off of her please” I yelled towards him. He came in quite a hurry. When he got to where I was she was very pale.
“Help me get this off her please!” I yelled at Max because of all the screaming in the room. When we lifted the plaster off her all this blood and screaming came from her.
“Help me help her stand up so we can get her out of here” I yelled at Max over all the moaning coming from the girl we just saved.
“Sure thing, then we’ll go and put out the fire before it spreads to the rest of the wing.” Max told me as we made it out the door of the Humanities class to where everyone was in blankets with oxygen masks to help them breath.
I went back in a few minutes later to put out the fire with Max when I heard a blood curdling scream come from the other end of the room where there was a lot of plaster.
“Max I will be right back I just need to go check out that section to see if anyone is still there.” I yelled to Max over my shoulder as I ran away to see if my fears were right.
“Sure thing, I will be just here waiting until you get back.” He yelled back to me.
When I got to where I heard the screaming all I heard was moaning and coughing. Then I saw it, the body of a girl with blonde hair and a lilac ribbon in her hair. I was hoping, praying it was not her. But when I got closer to see who it was my fears were answered with a yell for help.
I ran over the beams and all the dust to where Rose lay and I knew she was dying there in front of me.
“Please don’t leave me alone here please.” I heard her say when i slid down next to her to hold her hand.
“I won’t ever leave you if you won’t leave me.” I told her as I tried to lift the beam off of her to get her away from the fire at her feet.
“I trust you not to leave me.” She said in pain as I pushed so hard to get the beam off her.
“Max come help me get this beam off Rose so we can get her out of here” I yelled to Max across the room over the spark of all the blown lights from the explosion.
“I’m coming Mike, how bad is she stuck?” he said to me as he slipped under the beam in front of us.
“I don’t know, I can’t see the damage because the beam is on her side.” I told Max as he tried to help me lift up the beam.
“Ok then we are going to have to lift this together, you need to pull her as I lift it ok, you got that?” he said to me as we tried again.
“Yep I got it.” I told him as we lifted the beam. When I grabbed Rose by the shoulders he tried to hold up the beam but in the end it fell just after I got Rose out from under it.
“Can you go and get the medics, Max please.” I told Max as I tried to get Rose to sit up in my lap so she was not in so much pain on the cold floor.
“Sure thing, I will be right back.” He said over his shoulder as he ran over and under the beams to where the door was.
“Please don’t leave me alone. I’m cold and scared, please.” She said in shallow breaths and she was very cold despite how hot it was in here.
“I will never leave you as long as you are alive.” I told her as tears where sliding down my soot covered face onto her tiny pink nose.
“I will never leave you.“ She said very painfully.
“I have always loved you and I always will love you till the day I die.” I told her as I tried to make her as comfortable as I possibly could.
“I love you too with all my heart as well.” She said as the love and light drained from her mint green eyes.
“Please don’t leave me Rose I love you, I love you so much.” But it was too late. she was already fading away before my eyes. that was when Max came back with help.
“Mike are you still there? I have help with me, please tell me I‘m not too late?” I heard him say, but he was too late. by the time he got to where we were Rose was breathing her last breath.
“Max please hurry she is dying in front of me HURRY.” I yelled to him but by the time Max and the medics got to me Rose was stone cold dead, no life in her pretty little mint eyes.
“We're here, don’t you worry.” He told me. but I was worrying because she was breathing her last breath.
“You're too late, she just died there in front of me. how could this have happened to me? I lost my mother and my sister in a car crash, then my father I lost to alcohol.” I told Max as I cried on Rose’s shoulder.
“I’m so sorry Mike, about what happened to Rose and your family. but that happens. it's called life.” Max told me as the medics lifted Rose up on to the stretcher and Max helped me walk out.
“I know and I hate it, I hate it how it gives life but never gives life back.” I told Max when we were crossing a fallen beam.
“I know how you feel. remember when I lost my girlfriend Lilly in a car crash because a electricity pole fell on her car and she was pregnant with a baby girl.” Max told me as we made it to the door. that was when I saw the gaping wound on Rose’s side, that must have been why I was covered in blood and why she was so pale and cold to the touch.
“Please just leave me alone. I want to go back and look for Rose. LET GO OF ME.” I heard one of Rose’s friends say to the medics and the teachers.
“No no no no no this can’t be, she can’t be dead, she was just breathing then, she can’t be dead.” I heard Rose’s friend say as she fell to the floor when Rose’s cold limp body went past her. I ran to her as she was crying on the floor to hold her and to comfort her in her time of need.
Few months later.
It has been at least 3 months since that horrible day when I lost the love of my life and I have not found any one since then because I’m scared that I might lose them as well. I now stay with Max and his family where they take good care of me. I have never forgotten the day I lost Rose to that horrible explosion. I keep it all to myself. but then one day I might find someone I trust with all my heart again. But in the end it doesn’t even matter because I will just lose them the same way I lost Rose and my family. I still go to Rose’s grave and leave a lilac ribbon attached to a lilac rose. I still tell her I love her even if she can’t say anything back to me. but I know that she is watching over me and that she forgives me for what happened that day and that I will never forget her ever, as long as I live.
“I love you Rose, for as long as I live and I will never forget you ever.” I say as I put the rose and ribbon down next to her purple headstone that reads ‘in loving memory of ROSE MARY ANNA, the way she loved people but never stopped loving herself, and the way she cared for people’.
