Case 40 - Crime Against Humanity
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesState Police Officer Darnell Burnit was in pursuit of a tractor trailer rig. The truck driver refused to stop and pull over. Darnell notified the state police dispatcher that he needed backup.
Inspector Susie Young and Rebella were finishing lunch. Susie had her police walkie-talkie on scan and heard Officer Darnell Burnit requesting back up. “That’s only a couple of blocks from where we are,” said Susie getting up from the table. “I will call Ola and let her know that we are enroute to assist the state police,” said Rebella taking out her cell phone.
Susie and Rebella waited for the tractor trailer rig at the Newark Exit. When they saw the tractor trailer rig coming, Susie pulled up and blocked both lanes of the highway. The driver attempted to go around the car by leaving the highway, but he got the tractor trailer rig stuck. Rebella and Susie approached the tractor trailer rig with their service revolvers drawn. The driver was getting out and was thinking about running. “Hold it right there! We are the police and you are under arrest,” shouted Rebella. The truck driver put his hands up in the air. “Put your hands behind your back,” instructed Susie. The truck driver complied with Susie’s instructions and she handcuffed the suspect. Susie escorted the suspect to officer Darnell Burnit’s car.
Rebella opened the back of the truck and gasped. In the trailer were crates and immigrants from Mexico. “Susie you need to see this,” said Rebella. “What is it?” asked Susie walking back to the trailer rig. She looked in the trailer and could not believe what she saw. “I will call it in and get Rachel enroute,” said Rebella taking out her cell phone.
Command Officer Rachel McCabe and Inspectors J.P. and Tina Bullet arrived on scene. The state police were trying to get the immigrants off of the trailer but because of the language barrier they did not understand and would not come out of the trailer. “Status report,” said Rachel. “We have twenty people in the trailer and we can’t get them to cooperate,” said Darnell.
Tina went up to the trailer. “somos la policía y vamos a ayudarle. Por favor, ven aquí,” said Tina. The immigrants understood what Tina said and started getting off of the trailer. “Estamos en nuestro nuevo hogar!” said one of the immigrants with excitement. “He said we are at our new home,” said Tina to J.P. and Rachel. “Try to find out what is going on,” said Rachel. “Bienvenido a mi amigo. Soy inspector de bala Tina Bullet. Tengo que hacerle unas cuantas preguntas,” said Tina. “Yo soy Julio Vásquez, es nice to meet you bala la señora Bullet. ¿qué es lo que usted necesita saber?” asked Julio. “¿Cómo has llegado en el remolque?” asked Tina. “Un hombre llamado Héctor Martínez nos prometió una vida mejor en los Estados Unidos. Habrá más llegar pronto, said Julio. “He said a man named Hector Martinez promised a better life in America and there will be more coming soon,” said Tina.
The truck driver, Frank Sartuchee, was transported to the 169th Precinct.
Rachel, J.P. and Darnell entered the interrogation room. “I am not talking,” said Frank. “That’s fine. If anything happens to any of those people being illegally transported, you will be charged with accessory to murder and I will make sure you never see daylight again,” said Rachel trying to scare Frank into talking. “Look, all I know is someone named Raphael Perkins called me, he said he had a job for me. I was suppose to go to an isolated area near the Mexico United States border and pick up a trailer and deliver it to a warehouse on Sixty Third Street and when the job was completed I would be paid well,” said Frank. “Did it ever cross your mind that there might be something funky?” asked J.P. “I was only thinking about the money until the officer over there tried to stop me and then I realized there could be something illegal in the trailer, so I tried to get away,” said Frank. “We are through with him. He is all yours,” said Rachel to Darnell. Darnell escorted Frank out of the interrogation room.
Rachel and J.P. went into the detective office. “Rebella, I need you to go to the warehouse on Sixty Third Street and scope the place out. J.P., Tina, Susie, and Harvey, I want you and the swat team in position and ready to move in at a moment’s notice,” said Rachel.
Rebella went to the warehouse on Sixty Third Street. She noticed a guard guarding the front door. “That's weird to need a guard to guard this crummy looking place,” thought Rebella, picking up a rock. She threw the rock at the guard and started running. “Hey you! Come back here!” shouted the guard. She got up against the wall on the side of the building so the guard could not see her. The guard stopped at the corner of the building and was trying to figure out where she went. Rebella crept up behind him and put her hand over his mouth. “You are under arrest,” said Rebella. She handcuffed the guard to a metal pipe running up the side of the building. She went to the front door and looked in. There was Raphael, a dozen henchmen, and ten immigrants from Mexico tied up and gagged. She quietly moved away from the door and took out her cell phone. She called J.P. and told him what she had observed.
J.P. hung up his cell phone and advised the swat team to move in. Raphael and his henchmen were taken into custody without incident and the immigrants from Mexico were rescued and were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Raphael Perkins was found guilty on thirty counts of human trafficking and was sentenced to life in prison. Frank Sartuchee was also found guilty of human trafficking and was sentenced to twenty five years in prison. The thirty immigrants went through the naturalization process and became United States Citizens.
