Fallen Angel
Born 1996, F, from Victoria, AustraliaAmelia was standing in front of the window when the door opened and there was a cold blast of winter night air, then the door closed. Standing in front of the door was James all covered in snow and shivering to the bone.
“Darling, move away from the window before you catch a cold please.” James said with affection in his tone as he went to the fire and was warming his strong hands.
“Ok then honey." As she moved away from the blue icy window she saw a movement out of the corner of her eye.
“Darling what is it?” James asked as he made his way to where Amelia was standing with her hands to the window.
“I think I saw something outside James, and I'm very scared because it moved too fast to be human. James, do you think he has found us?” was all Amelia said before there was a crash from the other side of the room as three men came inside and were making their way to where James and Amelia were standing. Then there was a smash as a man jumped through the window and grabbed Amelia by the waist and held a knife to her throat.
“If you move I will cut her throat.” Said the man that had hold of Amelia.
“Are you sure this is the angel that the boss has been looking for?” said the man that had a picture of an angel in his hand.
“Yes this is her, see the mark? it is the mark of the angel.” Said the man as he brushed away her purple fringe.
“Call the boss and tell him we have found her.” Said the man as he picked up Amelia and carried her out the door and down the stairs to the carriage.
James chased after them but was punched in the gut and fell trying to breathe. Amelia was screaming, and then all of a sudden she had her wings but was shot in the back and fell into the arms of one of the men.
“You were very lucky, you know that.” Said the man that was holding Amelia.
“Really, why am I lucky?” Said the man as he helped the other one put Amelia in the carriage.
“Because if she was able to scream again she would have been able to call the others.” Said the man as he closed the door of the gold and white carriage.
“What do we do with the boy?” Said the man as he kicked James in the ribs.
“We can leave him here. we have what we came for.” They said as they got in the driver’s seat and rode away.
A few hours later.
“Were am I?” said a very sore and tired Amelia as she got up. she realised that she had her wings and that she was hovering over the ground.
“You are in the fallen angel house were all fallen angels come to when we find them.” Said a tall man from the shadows. That was when Amelia screeched and her wings folded in front of her and as she did this she broke a mirror beside her, shards of the glass fell all over the ground and her.
“Show yourself stranger.” Amelia said with a tiny yelp. The stranger stepped from the shadows and raised his head. the man was William the angel hunter, the evilest of them all.
“Happy to see me, young Amelia? or should I call you your angel name?” He said as he came closer to her.
“Never call me that name ever. I am no longer an angel.” She said as she grabbed a piece of shiny silver glass and hid it under her sky blue dress.
“why what happened to you my dear?” he said as he walked past her and towards the fountain where the stone angel was crying, but she knew that angel, it was her best friend Mary, but that was her human name, her angel name was Pearl.
“What did you do to pearl?” she said crying small silver tears, and as they fell they landed on her hands and arms, but as they landed the tears burnt her where they landed.
“She would not tell me where the fallen angel was and what her name was, so as she cried I turned her to stone, as I will you if you do not tell me where I can find her.” He said as he picked up a bowl and held it under the angel’s eyes so as the tears fell they fell in to the bowl and not into the water bellow.
“You’re looking at the fallen angel.” She said as she stood up and turned around so that she could see his face as it all sunk in.
“You are not the angel that I have been searching for, she has a golden tear on her forehead.” He turned then, and saw her holding a piece of glass. A look of disgusted amusement spread across his face. ”Did you honestly think you could harm me with that and come unarmed?” He moved his black jacket aside slightly, and that was when she saw the butt of a gun.
“No, I don’t think I can hurt you, and my angel name is Lockhart and I have been on this earth for 9 years.” She turned the glass around then, so that the pointed end was pointing directly at her chest.” But if you take one more step towards me, I promise you, I’ll put this glass shared through my heart.” She said. And he stopped moving towards her.
William's face had drained of blood.
“What are you doing?” He demanded, striding toward her. Amelia pushed the glass to her chest and pushed. The pain was sharp, sudden. Blood bloomed on her blue dress. ”Don’t come any closer.”
William stopped, his face contorted with fury.” what makes you think I care if you live or die, Amelia?”
“You said that you had been looking for me since I was banished from the sky. Why was I so important to you that you got yourself kicked out of the sky as well? it's not like you loved me?” she could feel blood, warm and wet, trickling down her skin, but the pain was nothing compared to her satisfaction at seeing the look of fear on Williams face.
“But back then I did love you, but now that I know that you are the fallen angel I need to kill you to make me more powerful. that is why I followed you to earth. but then I lost you when you struck the snow.” Something in her face must have changed, for the confidence went from his face expression and he lunged toward her, his arrogance gone, reaching desperately for the piece of glass. Amelia spun away from William, turning to face the fountain and plunged the glass into it so it was wet with the angel’s tears. The last thing Amelia saw was the silvery water splashing high above her as she plunged the glass in to her chest. A few minutes later James came running in to the fallen angel house and stopped at the door to where he hoped Amelia was and if she was still living. He kicked the door open.
And froze in horror. Amelia lay crumpled by the fountain, whose water was stained with red. The front of her sky blue dress was a sheet of scarlet, and blood spread from beneath her body in a widening pool. A shard of glass lay by her limp left hand, it was smeared with blood. Her eyes were closed.
William knelt by her side, his hand on her shoulder. He glanced up when James burst in to the room with a sword in his right hand, and then staggered to his feet, backing away from Amelia’s body. His hands were red with her blood, and his shirt and jacket were stained with it as well.
“ I...” he began
“You killed her,” yelled James. His voice sounded stupid to his own ears, and very far away. He saw in his mind’s eye sitting in front of the fire with his sister and brother, and to the back of them his mum and dad telling them not to sit too close to the fire. Then fast forward and sitting on the couch in front of the fire with Amelia lying on his legs with a quilt wrapped around her because she had a cold that week. I have lost everything. Lost everything.
Everything.
“No” William shook his head. He was fiddling with something - a ring on his left hand, made of silver. ”I didn’t touch her. She did this to herself.”
“You lie.” James moved forward, the shape of the shiny sword shimmered across the red water. He lunged, blade outstretched toward William. He felt it graze the cloth of William’s jacket --- and meet no further resistance. He stumbled forward, righted himself, and stared. Something clinked to the floor at his feet, a golden button. His blade must have severed it from William’s jacket. It winked at him from the ground like a mocking eye. Shocked, James dropped his sword. it fell to the cement floor with a clink and clang. He could not believe that William had gotten away and he did not know how he did it. was he an angel as well, or was he worse than that?
But that did not matter; not now. James could think of only one thing. Amelia. Half in dread, half in hope, he crossed the room to where she lay. The fountain made its wretched soothing noises as he knelt down and lifted her into his arms.
He had held her like this before, when she was ill and they were in front of the fire. Her dress was soaked in blood; so was her hair and face was streaked with it. James had seen enough injuries to know that no one could lose blood like this and live.
“Amelia.” He whispered. He crushed her against him; it didn’t matter now what he did. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, where her throat met her shoulder. Her hair, already beginning to stiffen with blood, scratched his cheek.
“Oh Amelia, how could I have let this happen to you? I said that I would never let anything hurt you when I found you in the snow. I said that I would never leave you alone. And look what has happened... you are in the fallen angel house, the place that scared you the most, the place that you would have nightmares about and you would wake up screaming and I would sit with you rocking you back to sleep and stay with you until you were no longer whimpering.” He said as he cried into her hair.
“It was not your fault.” Amelia said with a scratchy throat.
“Yes it was, if I had not asked a lady if she had a silver bottle to hold some silver tears then this would not have happened.” He said as he moved her so he was not crushing her any more.
“No, it was my fault. I called the angels and William must have heard me ,or Pearl heard me, and that was why he must have killed her because she heard me but did not know it was me. and he asked her if she knew where I was and she ether did or did not know and he thought she was lying and turned her to stone when she was crying for me. That must have been why I was so ill. she had died while crying for me and I had not been able to do anything about it. she died in vain because of me James. he killed her because of me.” She screamed while clutching James and that was when it happened. The stone angel cried as well then screamed and broke the stone.
“Pearl is that you? I can’t see you?” Amelia said as the angel fell in to the water and screamed so loud that the whole place shook.
“Yes, it is me Amelia. or can I say your fallen name if I may?” Pearl said as she climbed out of the water and hurried to were Amelia and James were lying down.
“Yes you can, now that William is gone. Pearl, this is James, he has been taking care of me for 9 years and I'm in love with him, so.....” she said as she breathed her last breath and fell limp in James’s arms.
“Nooooooooooo, Amelia, please don’t die, I love you, please don’t leave me.” Screamed James at the top of his lungs and then fell quiet as he went numb. this is the same thing as before when he had lost his family in the fire and he was the only one that made it out. he was now alone in the world as he was before.
“It was never your fault Lockhart, never, it was mine. if I had not come down from the stars to try to find you he would never had found me and been able to find you and hurt you.” Said pearl as she cried as well.
“Why did you call her Lockhart?” said James as he got up and helped Pearl up and then bent over and picked up the now cold limp and very bloody Amelia.
“Because that was her fallen name, but her name before she was the fallen angel was golden heart.” She said as she picked up all the broken pieces of glass and put them in the now still silver water.
“Why was she called golden heart?” said James as he went through the door to where it did not smell like death and blood.
“Because she cared for people that did not care for her and for things great and small, that was why we called her that. and when she fell we called her Lockhart because when she fell she locked her heart and never let anyone in unless they proved to her that they would take care of her. she must have unlocked her heart to you when she got ill.” She said as she closed the door and hovered over the stairs with her pink wings and rose dress.
“What colour wings did golden heart have?” said James as he stared at pearl and did not blink.
“She had golden wings when she was golden heart then when she changed to Lockhart she had silver wings with red flecks.” Said pearl as she jumped up the stairs to the top of them then stopped and helped James up them with a slight tug.
“Wow, she must have been very beautiful, did she have a sister?” he said as he shifted Amelia in his arms and made it easier to carry her.
“Yes, she does have a sister. you are looking at her right now.“ She said with a smile on her lips.
Nine years later.
“Well it has been nine years since that horrible day when I lost the one I loved, and I have one beautiful daughter to love and care for and a loving wife to cherish.” Said a very wise James while holding his eight year old daughter Roxana in his arms.
“And it has been nine years since I lost my sister on that dreadful day but I have a loving husband and little girl to love and hold forever and ever.” She said as she kissed James on the head and picked up Roxana and swung her around the room and then out came these tiny blue wings on tiny little Roxana and she giggled in absolute joy.
“But the best part was that William is dead, thanks to the angels of the stars. When they heard what had happened they set a hunt out for William and in two years they found him. now he is in the fallen angel house and is rotting in a jail cell made of the tears of the angels.” They said as they watched their little daughter Roxana flying around the room with her little blue wings.
