As I jogged into the public park, I immediately realized something was wrong. The usual bubble of children and gossiping of old women could not be heard and the uncanny silence was almost deafening. I turned around; ready to bolt back to my welcoming home when a growling voice stopped me, making my heart leap into my throat. “Don’t move.” On instinct I jerked my head towards the sound. That was my first mistake. The next thing I knew a hand grabbed my wrist and I could not help but scream. That was my second mistake. A sharp pain exploded on my head and I fell into darkness. When I came to, there was a throbbing in my head and I groggily tried to sit up to find that my hands were tied tightly behind my back and my mouth gagged with a piece of dirty red cloth. Suddenly a loud pop sounded and I recognised it as a sound of a gun. Three men burst through the bushes surrounding the path and, without seeing me, one of them pulled off his mask saying, “There really upping the security this time aren’t they Red? Ha I swear the - who is she?” he broke off, noticing me. They all turned to me and I could feel their burning gazes boring into my skin. “Dunno, some high school kid getting the in the way.” The younger one said shrugging. “Were gonna have to take her with us, since she’s seen your face you idiot!” Red snarled at the one who had taken his mask off, “but I guess she could be useful against the police.” I could feel the blood draining from my face and, as if sensing my fear, Red looked at me and smiled a slow evil grin. “Pack her in the car.” As the other two men advanced towards me I understood the immense danger I was in and started to struggle and kick at them but with no use. “Stop struggling girlie”, the younger one whispered in my ear, “it aint gonna get you anything but pain.” I could hear the menacing tone in his voice and let my body go limp as they picked me up by the arms and started to lead me to the black pickup they had come in. Red opened up the door and I got in without resistance. “Good girl…” he chuckled as he moved to sit next to me. “Drive Barney.” He commanded the younger man who got into the front seat. All at once, the terror set in and I couldn’t help thinking about whether or not I could escape. My hopes were shattered as Red closed and locked all the doors and held onto my arm firmly and tightly. And, as I was overwhelmed by terror and shock, I did the only thing I was capable of doing, crying. I laid my head back against the hard upholstery of the seat and let the tears silently slide down my face and I wondered if I would ever see my family again…
