Case 45 - The Rookie
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesSummer Brody had just completed the police academy and was the newest member of the 169th Precinct Police Auxiliary. She came upon an armed robbery at a jewelry store. “I don’t have time to call it in, they will be gone before back up arrives,” thought Summer as she nervously took out her service revolver. “Hold it right there, you are under arrest,” said Summer in a shaky voice. Her hands trembled as she aimed her service revolver at the suspect. One of the robbers turned around with a gun and aimed at Summer.
Inspector J.P. bullet jumped and knocked Summer to the ground as the suspect fired his gun at Summer. J.P. pulled out his service revolver and fired at the suspect, missing him.
The three armed men took off running. They encountered Inspector Tina Bullet, Detective Conner McMaster, and Dowzer the robotic police dog as they attempted to escape. “Hold it right there, we are the police and you are under arrest,” said Tina. One of the suspects surrendered. The other two took off running in the opposite direction. Conner started chasing the suspects. “Go get them Dowzer,” said Tina as she was pulling out her handcuffs.
“Are you ok?” asked J.P. as he helped Summer to her feet. “I am fine, thanks,” said Summer as she dusted off her pants leg.
Tina came up to where J.P. and Summer were with one of the suspects in handcuffs. “Is everybody ok?” asked Tina. “We are fine,” said J.P. “The other two are in custody and Conner is on his way with them,” said Tina.
Robert Urkel, the Commander of the 169th Precinct Police Auxiliary, met with Captain Graves. He closed the door behind him as he left the meeting. Summer was standing in the hall. Robert Urkel was a hot-head and anytime there was a problem he would lash out at people. “You are a disgrace to every officer in the 169th Precinct! Your actions today were unacceptable!” shouted Robert to Summer. Tears started rolling down Summer’s cheek as he continued to holler at her. J.P. stepped in. “Hold it right there, bubba, that is verbal abuse and if you terminate her after what you just said I will personally go before police commissioners and have you relieved of your duties. She made a mistake and instead of being hollered at she needs someone to teach her how to do things the right way,” said J.P. “Fine! You have two weeks to teach her and if she can’t learn it in that time frame then she is gone!” shouted Robert storming off.
J.P., Summer, and Dowzer were walking down the side walk on Essex Street. Dowzer sensed trouble and started making a barking sound and then hid behind some crates. J.P. drew his service revolver and motioned for Summer to get down.
A guy standing on the other side of the street pulled out a gun and started shooting at them. J.P. returned fire and the gun man fell to the ground. J.P. put his service revolver back into the holster. “They found me,” said Summer. “What are you talking about?” asked J.P. “Before I came to New York, I lived in Los Angeles. I started dating a guy, but I did not know that his father was Ernesto Hernandez, a Mexican Drug Lord. When I broke up with his son, Ernesto vowed he would take me out,” said Summer with a worried look on her face. “From my experience dealing with these people, Ernesto is probably here in New York, but instead of doing the job himself he is paying people to do his dirty work. So now the problem is locating Ernesto,” said J.P.
J.P. entered the detective office. “Harvey, I need you to do some checking on an Ernesto Hernandez,” said J.P. to Inspector Harvey Lucas. “I am on it boss” said Harvey.
Harvey did some checking on Ernesto Hernandez and discovered that he had used his credit card to purchase a plane ticket to New York and a room at the Majestic Hotel. He told J.P. what he had found.
“We can’t go in there with a swat team, because we would be putting the hotel guests in danger,” said Command Officer Rachel McCabe. “Right, but I have plan,” said J.P.
Inspector Susie Young went undercover as a maid. She knocked on the door to the room that Ernesto Hernandez was in. “Who is it?” asked Ernesto. “Room service, I am here to clean your room,” said Susie. Ernesto opened the door and let Susie in. Ernesto went and sat down on a couch in his room while Susie went to clean the bathroom. She took out her service revolver and went where Ernesto was sitting. “I am a cop and you are under arrest,” said Susie Young. Ernesto bolted off the couch and opened the door to the hotel room. J.P., Tina, Summer, and Harvey were standing there waiting for him. Ernesto knew he could not escape, so he put his hands in the air. J.P. handed Summer his handcuffs. “Put your hands behind your back,” instructed Summer. Ernesto followed her instructions and she hand cuffed him.
Summer entered Rachel McCabe’s office. “You needed to see me?” asked Summer. “Sit down,” said Rachel opening a drawer on her desk. She pulled out a detective badge and handed it to Summer. “We had an opening in the Special Investigation Division and Inspector Bullet recommended you for the position. Welcome to the team,” said Rachel shaking Summer’s hand.
Ernesto Hernandez was deported back to Mexico and was sentenced to life in prison.
