Case 46 - The Ship
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesInspector J.P. Bullet was driving down the road. Inspector Tina Bullet and Detective Summer Brodie were riding with him. “Rachel, said that Conner left the force to run C.V.s restaurant. C.V. is retiring so he can do some traveling and today is his last day,” said Tina. “Let me get this straight, Conner is leaving the police force to run a restaurant. You have to be joking?” said J.P. with a chuckle. J.P. looked over at Tina because she did not answer his question. “Conner McMasters running a restaurant?” said J.P. laughing. “What’s wrong with that?” asked Summer, joining in the conversation. “Because every business venture he has attempted has failed,” said J.P.
J.P., Tina, and Summer went into C.V.’s restaurant and sat down at a table. C.V. walked up to the table where they were sitting. “Who is this pretty young lady?” asked C.V. “That is Summer Brodie, she is the newest member to the Special Investigation Team. Rachel wanted her to ride along with us for six weeks,” said J.P. “Don’t worry sweetheart, J.P. will make you the toughest cop in New York City in no time,” said C.V. patting her on the shoulder. Conner walked up. “If you get a chance be sure to come to Happy Hour Thursday,” said Conner. “If we are not working, we will be here,” said Tina. Conner walked off to go talk to other customers. C.V. had a worried look on his face as he sat down beside Summer. “How long do you give it?” asked C.V. “A month,” said Tina. “Two weeks,” said J.P.
J.P., Tina, and Summer were heading back to the 169th Precinct when a call came over the radio of a suspicious male subject at Pier Twenty-Three. “That’s about five minute drive from where we are at,” said Tina. J.P. handed her his police walkie-talkie. “Advise dispatch we are enroute,” said J.P. “Dispatch, this is Five George Thirty-One, we are responding to Code One Priority One to Pier Twenty-Three,” said Tina.
They arrived at the pier and started looking around. An elderly gentleman was digging through a dumpster and saw them. He started walking off. Summer saw the elderly gentleman. “Sir, sir! Hold on just a minute. We need to talk to you,” said Summer. The gentleman stopped and turned around. Summer went to the gentleman. “I am Detective Summer Brodie, Special Investigation Division,” said Summer. “Great, they called the cops on me,” said the elderly gentleman whose name was Angel Brenengen. “Who called the cops on you?” asked Summer. “Those people messing around that ship,” said Angel pointing to a ship docked at the pier. J.P. and Tina came up to where Summer and Angel were standing. J.P. and Tina identified themselves and showed Angel their badges. He told them the same story as he did Summer about someone messing around a ship docked at the port. They told Angel it was probably nothing more than the owner of the ship had hired some people to do repairs, but they would watch for any suspicious activity.
Thursday Night, J.P., Tina, and Summer went to C.V.’s old restaurant which was now named Conner’s Bar and Grill. They walked in and all the customers were disappointed and complaining. Conner had a discouraged look on his face. “What was I thinking? I wanted to continue running the business just like C.V. where everybody could either come and have a good time or come talk about their problems,” said Conner. J.P. patted him on the back. “Bubba, you did the best you could,” said J.P. trying to encourage him.
Tina took her jacket off and handed it to J.P. She stood up on the bar. “Is everyone ready to party!?” shouted Tina. “What is she doing?” asked Summer. J.P. shrugged his shoulders. “Under a lovers' sky. Gonna be with you. And no one's gonna be around. If you think that you won't fall. Well just wait until. Til the sun goes down. Underneath the starlight - starlight. There's a magical feeling - so right It'll steal your heart tonight. You can try to resist. Try to hide from my kiss. But you know. But you know that you can't fight the moonlight. Deep in the dark You'll surrender your heart. But you know. But you know that you can't fight the moonlight. No, you can't fight it. It's gonna get to your heart” sang Tina as the crowd started clapping. “She’s good,” said Conner clapping his hands. J.P. tapped Summer on the shoulder. “Start moving towards the door real slowly,” said J.P. as Tina continued to sing and dance on the bar. When Tina finished the song she got off the bar and all the patrons were clapping as she walked back up to where J.P., Summer, and Conner were standing. “You did great,” said Conner hugging Tina.
J.P.’s cell phone rang. It was Field Command Officer Rachel McCabe. Someone found an unidentified dead body in a dumpster at Pier Twenty-Three. Rachel needed J.P. to come to the scene. When J.P. finished talking to Rachel he patted Tina on the shoulder. “We are needed at Pier Twenty-Three,” said J.P.
J.P., Tina, and Summer arrived at the pier. The funeral home was moving the body when they got there. Braxton with the funeral home pulled the sheet back so they could see the body. “That’s Angel,” said Tina. The sight of a dead body made Summer nauseous. She put her hand over her mouth and walked away to a secluded area to throw up. Tina walked up behind Summer. “Are you ok?” asked Tina. “Yeah, I am fine, I think it was the cherries,” lied Summer. Tina and Summer went back to where J.P. and Rachel were. “Angel was murdered and I think it has to do with that ship,” said J.P. “He tried to escape when we tried to talk to him and he told us about people messing around on the ship,” said Tina. “Makes me wonder if there is something illegal on that ship and someone saw Angel talking to us,” said J.P. “I think we need to get a search warrant and find out what is on that ship,” said Tina.
The next morning, Field Command Officer Rachel McCabe; Inspectors J.P. Bullet, Tina, Susie Young; Rebella Lucas; and Detective Summer Brodie executed a search warrant. The ship contained stolen gold bars. “These are the gold bars that were hid in the old Bearing Arms Hotel before it was demolished,” said Rebella.
“Listen,” said Summer as she heard footsteps approaching. They hid and drew their service revolvers. Louie Plummer and Jake Habersham came into the room. Summer made a noise as she was trying to stay hid. “What was that?” asked Louie. “I don’t know, let's get out of here,” said Jake. “We are the police and you are under arrest,” said J.P. coming out of hiding. “It’s the police! Run for it!” shouted Louie. Louie and Jake took off running.
Inspector Harvey Lucas watched the suspects board the ship. He drew his service revolver and commanded the swat team to move in. Jake and Louie were fixing to get off the boat when they saw Harvey and the swat team approaching. They knew they could not escape, so they surrendered.
J.P. Tina, and Summer had finished lunch at Conner’s Bar and Grill and were walking out the door. “You never said anything about my performance,” said Tina. J.P. put his arm around her. “It was very beautiful, don’t ever do that again,” said J.P.. Summer giggled at J.P.’s comment.
Louie Plummer was found guilty of theft and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Jake Habersham pleaded guilty to the murder of Angel Brenengen and was sentenced to life in prison.
