THE WATCH BY THE DEAD!

By Vienna Paige Connor (age 10)

CHAPTER ONE

She was walking home from school, her brunette hair dancing in the wind. As Imogen travelled her brain was asking her what it would be like to be dead. She had always wondered this. Imogen knew she wouldn't be able to find out till she was dead.

When she got home she got changed into her tracksuit, and jogged to the library. The thing about Imogen was that she loved horror stories. She had read all the Goosebumps and all the Undead Eds.

When she arrived at the library she noticed a pale white man disappear just like that. She guessed it was her mind playing tricks on her.
“Them stories are getting to my mind” she whispered. She chose her book, Zombie King, and ran home.

Considering she knew her dead Grandma was still living in her house and that she reads all the scary books, she believes GHOSTS ARE REAL!

Imogen's life revolved around horror, but not when it was real. Suddenly she tripped over a rock. An elderly man came to help. When Imogen's hand tried to touch his, it just went straight through.

“Sorry I can't help," he said, and disappeared into the atmosphere. Imogen was now really worried. She limp-ran home in fright. On her way home all she could do was shout at the top of her voice,
“MUM! DAD! HELP”. When she was closer to the house her Dad heard her and rushed out. She explained what had happened, while her dad carried her inside.

Imogen decided to return her book to the library in the morning. During the night she was awoken by a cold hand rubbing her back. It was the old man who helped her when she tripped over the rock.

“You do know your house is built on an ancient burial ground” whispered the ghost.

Imogen screamed. That explained the skeleton shaped moulds in the basement floor. She had thought somebody had been watching her. Minutes later her mum and dad came running in.

“What's the matter my baby?” asked her Mum.
“Why didn't you tell me”.
“Tell you what?”
“That this house is built on an ancient burial ground”.

Her Mum and Dad walked out and went back to sleep. But Imogen Couldn't. Then her Grandma appeared. Imogen knew her Grandma couldn't harm her.
“Ghosts can't hurt you” Grandma kept saying.
But suddenly the man that was in the library appeared.
“Can't they? Imogen, you know your question, what is it like to be dead, can be answered” whispered the man ghost.
Then they both started to cackle.

Imogen ran into her mum and dad 's bedroom, and hid under the covers. All of a sudden her Mum saw a floating knife. Unfortunately she couldn't see what was holding it. The knife was getting closer to the family. The problem was you can't kill or hurt ghosts. The knife was skimming Imogen's neck. It was getting deeper.

“What did I ever do to you?” asked Imogen.

“Nothing, your Grandma just wants to be with you and your family,” replied the man.

“Why though?” asked Imogen's Mum.

“This family is the best thing that ever happened to me” said Grandma.

All at once the family was dead.
