Society's Secret

Society's Secret

Could it be true? No way, there’s no such thing as wizards, witches, vampires, and werewolves.

They're just as real as I am, a leprechaun.

But looking into Oliver’s eyes I can see, this boy ain’t lying.

Well if Oliver is a Wizard what is the big deal? Doesn’t that just make things better? My boyfriend has superpowers.

“This won’t affect our relationship, right?” He asked me, squeezing my hand.

“No, no of course not. Why should it?” I answer. Although the answers were rolling into my mind as soon as I said the words.

“Listen.” He says, then putting one finger under my chin and bringing my head up to look at him he continued. “Listen, you have to be serious. If you’re going to carry on dating me, if I’m going to carry on loving you, I need to be able to know you're safe, to know that you’re watching your back, not making yourself vulnerable to them.”

Them, I found out about ‘them’ just as soon as I found out about magic. Them are the high people in both societies, our own and the one of the hidden world. I found out that Lawenly High is pretty much vampire, that’s why all the girls hate garlic bread so much there… Staffire Academy, werewolf. That’s why the hairiest of girls there still bag hunks. And my school, Rowington State High, full of witches and wizards. Lucy Harrington, Don Strewford, Nancy Carino, my beloved Oliver… and more. Those are the people anyhow, who according to ‘them’ should stay together, mixing of the hidden and our own world is highly despised and the charge is… death.

“You need to be careful.” He whispers into my ear. “Promise me, promise me you will try and stay safe.”

“I promise.” I answer. “I swear, I’ll do all that’s in my power, Ollie you know I will.”

“Yeah, I know.” Oliver says, then grins and looks away, breaking our eye contact. Then chuckling he manages to say, “But, it’s me with the powers…” and leans in to peck me on the cheek. I laugh and hold his hand tighter, never wanting to let go, I am willing to die with him. Love is love and they can’t stop us, they don’t know what’s coming for them if they try to. No power will break us, whether magical or high in society.
