His days of the week
Born 1991, M, from Accra, GhanaOnce there was a man-boy, his age doesn't really matter, but it's what he feels that does. Everyday before the sun rises he lies in bed thinking, thinking about what? you would ask. thinking about everything, about everyone and most importantly about her. when the sun is finally up and his thoughts are free, he goes about his business trying, trying to do what? you would ask, trying, desperately, vehemently, and failing, failing miserably to forget her. he can't. and even if he could he wouldn't because he loves her. at work, where she is, she taunts him, whether knowingly or not, he doesn't know, but she does and it hurts. is this love? he asks. why does it hurt so? what is love? what is this somewhat sweet, somewhat hurtful feeling? does it have a cure? who is a specialist? he needs a doctor. this is what the man-boy thinks on Monday.
On Tuesday, when the nights are dreary and the day cheery, he hates her, the very sight of her sickens him. she incessantly annoys him with her pointless chatter and her rough ways. On Tuesdays, he wishes she doesn't even exist and he loves Tuesdays. Wednesday is another day, a glorious day, glorious because she smiles at him, glorious because she is accommodating, glorious because on that day his love seems requited. on that day he actually has hopes and can see the future in her eyes. The feeling of euphoria carries through from Wednesday to Friday. On Friday it is a day of unrest. the saying out of sight out of mind doesn't apply to him. she leaves early because they work only half the day. he doesn't see her as much but he doesn't forget her either. he pictures her in his mind, idolizes her, worships her, weds her, beds her. Fridays are real torments, they are his personal furys. they are his purgatory. Saturday, sunny and bright, Saturday, fun and light, all is good and well on saturdays because, it's his day, he has control of his thoughts on Saturdays. he thinks what he wants and there is no stopping him, he thinks about her. as the the day ends there is a sense of foreboding, there is Sunday, Sunday, church day, she never misses church and neither does he. who is she to do this to him? how dare she? she dares because he loves her and she doesn't even know. she doesn't exist.
